Mise En Scene

For our own music video we decided to go against typical R &B and Grime genre clothing. Often known for their wearing of heavy chains and big blacked out shades, this is something that we decided to go against. Instead we dressed the artist in more mature clothing, wearing jeans, jacket and a scarf which has connotations of a more established artist and therefore signifies that the relationship he is in is also more mature to the audience.

As a result of challenging this convention is allowed for us to potentially have a wider target audience, as it goes against typical stereotypes of R&B and Grime videos which is more appealing to the black ethnicity.

We also used a red rose which has signifies passion and love but when the artist places it on the gravestone it symbolizes an undying love. The fact that it is also red means that it links with our other media texts.

Mise En Scene: Location When deciding on where to film the music video we

went location viewing around central London, deciding on the most aesthetically pleasing settings. In the majority of R&B video’s the directors have a much bigger budget, something that we didn’t and so we were unable to rent a modern looking apartment that we would have liked to use as the couples house of residence.

When looking for a romantic location to film the memory scenes we decided on South Bank in Central London at night as the bright lights against the dark sky created a candlelight effect that was key to creating the right atmosphere.

Camera Shots A convention we followed was the

multiple use of close up camera shots which allowed the audience to gain an insight into the artists emotions thus allowing the audience to further connect with the lyrics of the song.

Magazine Advert

Using an image of the artists physical body is common among R&B artists, in particular male artists so following this convention allowed us to make the artists more appealing to females, who are most likely to be the main buyers of the album. As a result of this we also showed the artists body in the actual music video which allowed the audience to make a connection between the advert and video.

Magazine Advert

When creating the magazine advert we were largely influenced by Trey Songz’ mixtape entitled ‘Anticipation’ cover which we felt was extremely successful. We felt that the colours contrasted well with each other and so used them in our own magazine advert.

Digi- Pack The digi-pack consisted of various images of

the artist in different locations which signifies a diverse musician, which could also be reflected in his music. A common trait among Grime album covers is the tendency to photograph the artist in its social surroundings which would inevitably connect with its target audience. We decided to follow this convention and apply it to our own digi-pack.
