In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms and

conventions of real media products?

Our production uses…My teams media production as a whole uses many media conventions, however does develop these and sometimes differs from the general conventions of the genre, miss en scene and more. When we as a team were looking to choose a genre we focused on a challenging genre because we did not just want to use the easiest option possible, the song comes from a genre of R&B and a slight pop theme which fits in with the artist. The typical themes of an R&B video was focused on during research, we found that conventions such as sex, exploitation, slight violence and promotion of alcohol, money and substances are usually promoted as well as dark colour schemes, in the original video, none of this occurs however the song is still classed as an R&B song because of the artist that sings it. Obviously we did not want to promote such things as sex and alcohol through our video, we wanted to provide narrative and a running, consistent theme throughout which sticks to the conventions of chilled R&B yet at the same time challenged it.

Our production challenges…

Usually in R&B videos the shots are fast and the editing is quick, a shot will generally last no more than 5 seconds before moving to the next, I feel although our video challenges these because our shots last quite a while due to the slowness of the song. Also our video could be seen to challenge usual conventions as in a R&B video usually many people will be seen, usually youths with their friends, our video however contains only our artist on her own, this fits the storyline that we are trying to portray as the song influences loneliness.

Our production develops…

Even though our video challenges certain conventions of modern R&B, it still has quite a few similarities and follow pattern, such as demands of the record label, in any video of any genre, usually close ups of the artist will be used to show emotion and promote the artists image/style, we use lots of  different shots and angles in the video but we do stick to convention as we have close ups of our artist  expressing emotion and promoting her style. As well we don't differ from convention as we stick to a colour scheme in which most of the genre we chose does. We added effect of black and white on the final video to again potray the storyline of quite a dark time in someones life.

Over allI feel with our music video we have created almost another lane for R&B which differs from the stereotypical behaviour seen in modern society which is influenced by the genre, we have fluently kept the main conventions within our video however we have approached it at a different angle which  helps our video take a unique format in terms of style and content.
