American Society of Civil Engineers Duluth Section 1 President’s Message: Greetings! With the changing of the seasons into fall, also come changes to our Duluth Section Board. I am excited to be your new president and would like to thank Art Johnston for his service and hard work last year. This year’s board con- sists of a very dedicated and diverse group of individuals. The success of the section depends upon people like this who give their time to represent and serve the members of the Duluth Section. Through my years of past service I have found that ASCE has been a very re- warding organization. Involvement in ASCE allows you to represent your pro- fession in a positive way, develop leadership skills, and make invaluable con- tacts both personally and professionally. I would encourage every one of our members to consider becoming a part of the board or becoming a part of a committee within the section. There are several opportunities for our mem- bers to become involved today: The section will be launching a website this fall to better get information out to our members. We are looking for an individual who is interested in man- aging and updating the content of this site once it has been created (no expertise required). If you are interested in student outreach, John Hinzmann, our toothpick bridge chair, is looking for an individual to Co-Chair the committee with him. This is a great way to connect with potential future engineers and is a wonderful event that the Section would like to continue to organize for years to come. More details about these and other opportunities as well as upcoming activi- ties/meetings can be found inside this newsletter. I hope to see you at our October Section meeting, Lisa M. President’s Message:

Greetings!

With the changing of the seasons into fall, also come changes to our Duluth Section Board. I am excited to be your new president and would like to thank Art Johnston for his service and hard work last year. This year’s board con-sists of a very dedicated and diverse group of individuals. The success of the section depends upon people like this who give their time to represent and serve the members of the Duluth Section.

Through my years of past service I have found that ASCE has been a very re-warding organization. Involvement in ASCE allows you to represent your pro-fession in a positive way, develop leadership skills, and make invaluable con-tacts both personally and professionally. I would encourage every one of our members to consider becoming a part of the board or becoming a part of a committee within the section. There are several opportunities for our mem-bers to become involved today: The section will be launching a website this fall to better get information out

to our members. We are looking for an individual who is interested in man-aging and updating the content of this site once it has been created (no expertise required).

If you are interested in student outreach, John Hinzmann, our toothpick bridge chair, is looking for an individual to Co-Chair the committee with him. This is a great way to connect with potential future engineers and is a wonderful event that the Section would like to continue to organize for years to come.

More details about these and other opportunities as well as upcoming activi-ties/meetings can be found inside this newsletter.

I hope to see you at our October Section meeting, Lisa M. Karlgaard, PE Duluth Section President

ASCE's mission is to provide essential value to our members, their careers, our partners and the public by developing leadership, advancing technology, advocating lifelong learning and promoting the profession.
