As a part of International Education Week, our annual
Global Night on Nov.16th took place at our new CIC thea-ter for the first time. This year’s performances included
Korea’s K--pop dance from S.Korea, Tinikling from the Philippines, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Gorin Ondo
dance from Japan. During the spectacular traditional fash-ion show, OC students from various cultural backgrounds walked on the stage in their beautiful traditional cultural
clothing. In addition, guests enjoyed learning about the significance of each performance from display boards the
performers prepared. The entire show was incredible, and successful. And we loved seeing our students’ diverse cultures and different sides of students we usually don’t
get to see. Siyi

Treasure Box K-pop (an abbreviation of Korean pop or Kore-
an popular music) is a musical genre consisting
of electronic, hip hop, pop, rock, and R&B mu-
sic originating in South Korea.
In addition to music, K-pop has grown into a
popular subculture among teenagers and young
adults throughout Asia, resulting in widespread
interest in the fashion and style of Korean idol
groups and singers.
K-pop has now
even spread outside
of Korea, thanks to
the Internet. People
all over the world
now enjoy K-pop,
even though they
don't necessarily
understand the
words.

Do you have any plans for winter break?
Did you know that we can go to Portland, Oregon and
Vancouver, Canada by bus? BoltBus offers inexpensive
trips between Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland.
The bus stop in Seattle is located right next to Uwajimaya
(Asian grocery store) in Chinatown (some of them may
have a hard time to find the bus stop…).
Since there is NO sales tax in Oregon, many students go
to Portland for shopping. If you’re planning to go to Ore-
gon, don’t miss Voodoo Doughnut.
Their doughnuts are very popular
with unique and fun to look at do-
nuts as they are delicious to eat!
Other popular location is Vancou-
ver, Canada. Visit the largest
aquarium, the Vancouver Aquarium in Canada which
houses more than 70,000 sea- animals in 116,000 sq. ft. of
facility space.
If you’re looking for a place where you can enjoy shop-
ping, Robson Street is a popular shopping area in down-
town Vancouver. Robson street has a good trendy shops
such as Zara, Sephora, and local brands Lululemon, and
Aritzia.
If you’re planning to go to Canada, make sure to check if
you need a visa on the Canadian
government website:
www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/
visas.asp. And remember to re-
quest travel authorization on
your I-20 from your DSO prior
to the travel. —Sumire.
