    Pastor’s column

    What your newpastor cannot do

In the near future ByromvilleBaptist Church should have anew pastor. I'm sure God isgoing to provide anoutstanding man to serve you.

I thought I would give yousomething to think about. Here are several things thatyour new pastor will not beable to do...

Read minds. Everybody knows that, but many churchmembers hold pastors accountable for unstatedexpectations.

Be everywhere. No human being can be every placeat once, yet some members get upset when pastorshave to say “No.”

Change hearts. Only God can do that.

Know everything. Most pastors study hard, butnobody can answer every question somebody asks.

Please everybody. Even Jesus couldn’t do that.

Live sinlessly. Nobody can. Including you. And me.We’re all sinners.

Grow churches. If the church does grow, it’s becauseGod does it.

Escape mistakes. All of us will mess up sometime, often unintentionally and even unknowingly.

Avoid favoritism. Pastors minister to everybody, buthaving better (and best) friends is natural.

Reveal everything. No matter how much you maywant to know the details, pastors may not be in aposition to tell you.

Ignore sin. Pastors must address this issue, evenwhen it’s not popular.

I challenge you to begin praying regularly for yournew pastor and his family, even before you or thesearch committee knows who they are. And whenGod reveals him I encourage you to continue to prayfor him and his ministry. You’ll find that as you prayfor him and his family, your love for them will grow. If you love them the way you have shown love toCheryl and me, I’m sure that they will enjoy a longministry in Byromville. We have surely enjoyed ourtime with you.

May God continue to bless each of you and theministry at Byromville. Bro. Phil & Cheryl

    Children’s Home Day, May 26, 2019

    Dear Byromville Baptist Church,

Once a child’s heart has been broken it is almostimpossible to put it back together, but with God weknow all things are possible. We often explain to ourchildren, most of whom have never heard the goodnews about Jesus, that God is reaching out His handand simply saying, “Come to me, I won’t let youdown. I’ll catch you before you fall.”

At Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes and FamilyMinistries, that simple message of Jesus hastransformed many lives this past year including 46young people who have made professions of faithduring 2018. That’s 46 broken hearts that are healedand 46 children that will walk with Jesus ineverlasting life.

Because of your offerings and prayers, we served1,030 clients in 2018.

Visit https://www.georgiachildren.org and follow uson Facebook to learn more about our ministry.

    Sincerely,Kenneth Z. Thompson, President/CEO

Offering envelopes will be available May 26.
