Pastor’s column

A year already!?!?!

Can you believe it has been ayear already? February marksthe one-year mark since I beganserving here at ByromvilleBaptist Church. Looking back itseems to me that this past yearhas flow by in a whirlwind!

Let me begin with this: Jeanieand I feel so very blessed to bea part of this wonderfulcommunity. After traveling thisnation over in the military, we

can easily say that this is, by far, the most loving, embracing, friendly, and entertaining church familythat we have ever witnessed, and being invited to bepart of the family was an absolute blessing! The lovethat has been extended to us on a regular basis ishumbling in so many ways. I think Jeanie’s favoritepart is when a conversation is struck up about thingsbefore our time and someone says that it just feelslike she has always been here. It is little things likethis that mean so much.

I believe that the first year was a wonderful year, butas good as the first year was, I have no doubts thatthis year will be even better! As I look ahead to theevents on the horizon, we have a busy year! TheValentines Banquet is looking good and approachingfast, Easter and our sunrise service will mark thecompletion of the Baptist Faith and Message series, aswell as kick off our jump into Genesis and Creation;the packages for Vacation Bible School are alreadyarriving, and the Celebrate Jesus Revival at the end ofJuly has already reached the planning phase. Beforeyou know it Toyland Concert will be here, and thenChristmas and a whole new year, and these things arenot the only events we have planned! It is easy to seehow the year can be overwhelming if we were to lookat it all at once and wonder how we will get anythingdone for the glory of Christ, much less all of it donefor His glory.

The Bible says, “Even the youths shall faint and beweary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but thosewho wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; theyshall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run

and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint”. Wecan accomplish the things that have been placed uponour heart because we have the support and strength ofthe Lord Almighty! As we seek to do His will, andpray for His support, He will renew our strength andwe will soar through by His power!

I encourage you not to look at things and getdiscouraged, but look at things and get encouragedbecause when it seems difficult or impossible, remember that His glory shines even brighter in themidst of our weakness!

It is going to be a fantastic year!

In Christ, Jacob

January’s Special Fifth Sunday Night Service willfeature Madilynn Rae Thompson in concert. Madilynn has sung at our Toyland Concert the lasttwo years. She has a fantastic voice. She is thedaughter of Marci and Al Thompson and thegranddaughter of Dianne Thompson.

After the concert, we’ll enjoy a fellowship time inSaliba Hall with light refreshments.

Congratulations to our pastor for earning his Mastersof Divinity from Liberty University!
