Everyyearwetrytogetawayforaweekendonouranniversary. This was our27th wedding anniversary.Hardtobelieve,timepassessofast. We decided to go toBrownCounty, (Nashville)Indiana.Ihadheardsomuchaboutallthegreatshopsandthingstodothere.Weweretired of Pigeon Forge andGatlinburg; so we decided
A Weekend In Brown County, Indiana to head north to HoosierCountry.It’snotabaddrive;ittakesaboutthreehours. Brown County’s color-ful leaves and rolling hillsdraw thousands of visitorseachfall,makingautumnanidealplacetovisitforleavewatching and for festivals.People just lovebeingout-side. Brown County offersmany outdoor festivals forpeopleofall interestsfrommotorcycles and mountainbikes to good music andgoodfood. I made reservations atthe Artist Colony Inn theweek before. The inn wasvery quaint; but nice. Thefurnishings were Shakerstyle with a pencil postbedandpegs tohangyourclothes on, located aroundthewall;whichwasdiffer-ent.Theroomwassmallbutoffered adequate space foronecouple.Eachroomwasdedicated to a favorite art-istthathadspenttimetherepainting.
TherearemanyplacestostaysuchastheAbeMartinLodge,TheBrownCountyInn, The Nashville House,Orchard Hill Motel, TheVillageMotelandtheCor-nerstone Motel to name afew.Therearealsologcab-instorentatBrownCountyStatePark. WespentmostofSatur-dayvisitingasmanyshopsaspossibleandIdon’tthinkwecoveredthemall.Myfa-voritepartofthetownwasAntiqueAlleywhereorigi-nal crafts were created byBrown county craftsmen.Items included beautifulpottery,leathergoods,suchas hats, handbags, moc-casins and accessories andhandmadejewelry. Of course we also en-joyedtheCarmelCornCot-tage that featured caramelcorn, kettle corn and cara-mel delights. Bob just hadtogetcaramelcorn! We took a train ridearound town and they also
offered carriage and trailrides. We ate lunch at a spe-cial place that was Bob’sfavorite . . .TheSandwichShoppe, owned by BobbyKnight’s long-time friend.Itwasinabasementdeco-ratedwithIndianamemora-bilia.BobwasbraveenoughtowearhisUKblueintheHoosier den! He got somestares; but he didn’t mind.Heevenaskedthewaitresswhytherewasn’tanyKen-tuckyBlueonthewall;shejust laughed and took ourorder;nocomment. I bought things for thekids; Colton got clothesfromtheNikeoutletnearbyinEdinburghandtoysfromTheToyChest.IfoundTaraaUKtoponsaleatFoxfire& Foxfire. All UK shirtswereonsale. Wehadagreattimeandmademanyspecialmemo-ries.Ifyouevergetachanceto go to Brown County; Iwouldrecommendithighly.
