Congratulations to Hester Armstrong who has been select-ed for the Northants County Netball team.
Well done to Max Faulkner who came 2nd with his team in the 10 Counties Under 16 Golf Tour-nament.
Well done also to Isabella Lloyd who won the 12 Counties U14 Tennis Tournament at Corby and the U14 Regional Tournament, losing only in the quarter finals of the U16 Tournament to the No.1 seed in 3 sets.
Pupil Achievements
Crystal Award We were thrilled to hear this week that we have been awarded the Aspire Magazine 'Crystal Award' for Outstanding Educational Services. Well done to staff and pupils alike! You can read the related article in the magazine via our Facebook page and website news.
Staff News Many congratulations to Mr White who became a father on 24th October when Albert William ventured into the world weighing 8lb. Bertie (as he will be known) and his mother are both doing well and his grandmother, Mrs White, is doing particularly well!
Music for Youth I would like to wish Phoebe Thomas all the very best as she is performing at the Royal Albert Hall next week with the County Junior Strings in the Music for Youth Proms. This is a huge honour and we are all extremely proud of her and, of course, wish her the very best.
SHSPA I am very pleased to say that that new SHSPA Committee has been formed and my thanks to those on the Com-mittee in anticipation of the excellent work they will do for the school. Please see further information regarding the Committee elsewhere in the newsletter. Thank you to all other parents who expressed an interest in either helping with sub-committees or helping at events, or simply by supporting events.
Parents’ Meetings The first full parent/teacher meetings begin a week on Monday with Year 5, followed soon after with Year 7. It is not appropriate for the children to attend these meetings and I would be very grateful if you could make arrange-ments so that they do not have to be left to sit in the Dome unsupervised. I do understand that this is difficult for those of you who live some distance away, but do remember that, although the meeting begins at 6.00 pm, last entry for parents is at 7.00 pm. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Remembrance It is always a very special moment in the year when the entire school comes together for our Remembrance Service, as we did this morning. It was as moving and thoughtful as ever and I would like to say a particular well done to Johnnie Stephenson who played ‘The Last Post’ so admirably.
Sports Tours Year 8 and the hockey and rugby 1st teams left this morning for Yorkshire. I wish them all the very best in their matches and I have no doubt that, in addition to the rugby and hockey, the children will have a wonderful time.
Anti-Bullying Week Next week, schools up and down the country will be marking ‘Anti-Bullying Week’ and we will be doing the same here at Spratton with some special assemblies and events. It is always important that children are forever mindful of others and that even a comment they consider to be mild or humorous can be hurtful to others. ‘Anti-Bullying Week’ exists to raise awareness of anti-bullying and to help children understand that they must do everything they can to get along with each other and to maintain a happy, friendly environment.
Winter With the cold weather arriving rather emphatically this week, please would you try to ensure that the children come to school wearing jumpers/cardigans and the school coat.
Thank you
Year 6 had an enjoyable three days in Boulogne before half-term. They visited
the cathedral, the castle, the town hall, the port, the police office, a pharmacy
and a bakery in the town. Nowhere was more exciting though than the
chocolate factory where they got to sample the different kinds of chocolate
they made and even have a go at making it!

Music Department
Music in Quiet Places Concert Our next Informal Concert ‘Music in Quiet Places’ will take place on Monday 14th November in St Andrew’s Church, Spratton. If you require a sibling tea, please let the office know as soon as possible.
ABRSM Exams These will take place on Tuesday 15th November and the morn-ing of Wednesday 16th November. All pupils should have re-ceived a slip indicating the time of their exam and what time they need to be in the Music Department.
Vocal Music Day – Thursday 24th November Spratton Hall will be hosting their first Vocal Music Day on Thursday 24th November. The day will be led by one of our vo-cal specialists and peripatetic teachers, Mr Barry Clark. Barry is the Choral Director of the award winning ‘Masquerade’ choir based in Kettering. He has a vast amount of vocal knowledge and experience in this area. The day will involve our Year 5 Senior Choir members, along with pupils from some of the pri-mary schools in the local area. There will be a performance to parents at 2.30 pm, where you will have the opportunity to
hear what we have done throughout the day and also hear the Jazz Band perform. All parents are welcome to attend.
Music for Youth Proms Congratulations to Phoebe Thomas, who will be performing in the Music for Youth Proms with the County Junior Strings next week. The proms take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London and to be able to take part in such an event, is a fan-tastic opportunity. We wish Phoebe the best of luck.

Mrs Brown
S p r a t C h a t
Mrs Julie Brown, from the Catering team, talks to Year 8 pupils Adam Gray and Harry Hemsley.
Who is the person who has most inspired you in life and why? My mum, because she had a lot of setbacks in life but she carried on regard-less. She was a very strong lady.
What is the most exciting or unusual thing you have ever done? It probably doesn’t sound exciting but when I was 17 I left home. I went to work in Butlins in Minehead for the summer season. I went all the way there on my own!
Do you have a favourite chef or recipe book and why? I would have to say Jamie Oliver is my favourite chef. I like his way of think-ing and attitude to life and I love all his recipes.
Do you have any hobbies? Tell us about them. I like reading, walking, shopping and more shopping!
Now for the ‘quickfire’ questions:
Favourite holiday destination? Anywhere that is hot and sunny where there is a pool and a beach
Favourite sport to play or watch? I don’t really like any sport to play or watch
Favourite drink? Cider
Favourite gadget? Kindle Fire
Favourite meal? Fish and Chips
Favourite day? Christmas Day
Favourite television show? Emmerdale and Coronation Street
Favourite film? The Green Mile
Favourite website? https://www.youtube.com/
Finally, can you describe yourself in 3 words? Shy, trustworthy, caring

Charity Work Well done to Johnnie Stephenson, Dino Gallone, Dickon Collins, Ed Harrison, Charlie
Mallott, Isabelle Norton and Emily Parker, the Year 8 British Heart Foundation team,
who took part in a sponsored bike ride around Pitsford Reservoir during half-term.
Many miles were covered and fun was had by all. They raised the fantastic amount of
£1,250.
Emily Parker also held a Cake Sale at East
Haddon on bonfire night and along with
her two friends raised a fantastic £86.25
for the British Heart Foundation.

Well done also to Millie Ritchie in Year 6 who has been busy raising funds for Rainbows Hospice. Millie cycled 22.5 miles around Pitsford Reservoir and has successfully collected over £500 to help young people at the hospice. This is a fantastic achievement.
Thanks to a rather bizarre examination blip by Lamda we had to put in an extra private examination session before half-term for those unable to aim for the public session in June and a few brave souls stood with the following results:
Speaking Verse & Prose Grade 1 Shanaya Jasinarachchi: Distinction Hebe Lowin: Distinction
Acting Grade 2 Sophie Lloyd: Distinction
Acting Grade 3 Georgina Hunt: Merit
Huge congratulations to all, but special mention must go to Georgina Hunt who bravely decided to tackle Grade 3 Acting in an extremely short space of time and got a terrific mark, representing some serious intensive work! This Grade is usually tackled by older children and with much more re-hearsal time - so it was particularly pleasing that Georgina did so well.

There is a wonderful saying that ‘Autumn paints in colours that Summer has never seen.’ It may well
be cold and damp outside, but with the crunch and swirl of leaves underfoot, the stunning golds, or-
anges and reds that surround us, not to mention the treasures of acorns, berries, seed pods and toad-
stools – there is something about Autumn that awakens our senses and reminds us of the wonders of
being outside. I have been overjoyed by the steady stream of photographs that you have
been sending me in response to my ‘Autumn is Awesome’ challenge and I urge you to step
into the Pre-Prep entrance to admire them. It has been such a pleasure to see the children’s
faces alight with curiosity and joy, and I thank you so much for taking part.
I cannot quite believe how rapidly Christmas feels like it is approaching! You will have noticed
this week that I sent out a letter regarding tickets for our highly anticipated Pre-Prep Christ-
mas Nativities. Due to the seating capacity of the Hunter Hall, numbers need to be managed
very carefully. May I ask that you submit your ticket requests no later than Tuesday 22nd
November please, so that we can begin the process of juggling numbers and allocating
names to places. We will, of course, endeavour to accommodate your requests as best we
can.
With Christmas still in mind, your child brought home their beautifully printed, glossy sample
Christmas card this week. Should you wish to purchase any, orders need to be placed online
at www.thedandyarthouse.com by Wednesday 16th November, to guarantee delivery to
school by the first week of December. Parents with children in Pre-Prep and Prep may order
a mix of packs when taking advantage of the 3 for 2 offer. All orders will be delivered to
school by the first week in December. Full details are on the information slip included with
your child’s sample card.
Finally, a huge well done goes to Year 2, who delivered an informative and fact filled assem-
bly on Thursday, based around their topic of ‘We Are Britain’. It was wonderful to see the
children’s confidence as they delivered their lines, sung songs about the different countries
of the British Isles and performed an action filled recount of the tale of ‘The Giant’s Cause-
way.’ With all of our year group assemblies now completed for this term, it leaves our Christ-
mas performances to look for-
ward to!
