Introduction
IDA Initiated in the year of 1946.
IDA today has grown in to a giant body comprised of 29 State
Branches & 290 Loc. Branches. Representing 50000 Dental
Professionals.
IDA was Formed after Dentist Act 1948 was passed in Indian
parliament before which it was known as All India Dental
Association.
Association was registered in New Delhi in 1967.
Functions of IDA
1.Holding periodic meeting & conferences of the members.
2.Publishing & circulating a journal.
3.Encouraging the opening of libraries in the branches.
4.Publishing papers related to dental researches.
5.Encouraging research in dental & allied sciences.
6.Conducting educational camping among Indians about oral hygiene.
7.Protect public from unethical treatment by unqualified practitioners.

JIDA is a scientific journal exclusively design to promote dental, oral,
medical researches.

IDA FACING THE CHALLENGES
Addressing multiple complex oral diseases
IDA challenges extent from the continued struggle against most common infectious disease: dental caries and periodontal disease-to eliminating life threatening oral and pharyngeal malignancies, craniofacial birth defects and developmental disorders, acute and chronic orofacial pain, to improve quality of life for persons who suffer from them.
Adopting and applying new technologies
The extra ordinary development in science, there is need to ensure that tools emanating from new technologies are adopted and used by professionals for benefit of the public.
Closing the knowledge gap
Many oral diseases and conditions can be controlled, yet significant gaps exist in the public oral health knowledge. The dental knowledge gap, ensures the need that target audience become informed, make appropriate decisions about their health .
The burden of oral diseases
The burden of oral diseases affect the most basic human needs : The ability to eat and drink, Maintain proper nutrition, Smile and communicate. many systemic conditions such as AIDS ,diabets,sjogrens syndrome and osteoporosis have important oral symptoms, manifestations or complications. IDA focusing on oral disease and disorders,birth defects and conditions .-
Dental caries
Dental caries are not extinct. Tooth decay, the end result of a bacterial infection, remains the most common chronic diseases of child hood in the India. Caries also a problem among adult. Recurrent caries and root caries are prevalent among adult and the elderly. IDA helps to identify the most effective health education message for the prevention of caries,particularly among underserved population.
Periodontal diseases
As a result of infection caused by bacteria in the plaque. It may be mild forms such as gingivitis to severe disease that destroy the periodontal ligament & surrounding bone. In some cases leading to lose of tooth.
Oral and pharyngeal cancer
Oral&phryngel cancer is the sixth most common cancers in the developed world.Each year an estimated 1,25,000 patients die. The most disturbing aspect of this is the survival rate.
Structure of the association
It has a Registered office in India where the Gen. secretary reside.
Branches of it spread all over the India.
There are mainly 2 branches:
1.Local branches
Branches which are situated either at district head quarters or in other places in the district.
2.State branches
Branches which has their head quarters within the respective state and made up of various local branches .
Local branches should have a minimum of 30 annual members.There shall not be more than one branch in the same town.
Membership of IDA
Dental practitioners registered under the Indian Dentist Act 1948 are eligible to become members of association.

2. Life Members
3. Annual Member
4. Direct Members
5. Student Member
6. Affiliate Members
1. Honorable membersPersons of high scientific or literary attainmentPersons who have conspicuous servicePersons whose connections with the association may be deemed desirable.
2. Life membersDental practitioners and other members of dental profession eligible to become a member of association on payment.
3. Annual MemberPersons with required qualifications who pay by annual subscription
4. Direct MembersPersons eligible for membership but who are not residing or practicing in the area of a local branch.
5. Student memberOnly under graduate student of recognized dental institution may be admitted as student member.
6. Affiliate membersNon residential foreign dental practitioners having dental qualification are become affiliated members.All affiliated members will be attached only to the HQ.
Privileges of IDA membership All member shall be supplied with a copy of the journal. All members can use the library and association books. All members have the right to attend in discussion in all general meetings, lectures and demos or conference organized by association. All members shall enjoy any other privilege that may conferred by central council.

For president and vise president nominations are invited from local branches.
The executive committee of the branch select the members.
After screening or self withdrawal of the candidate by any the list of nomination send to all branches requesting them to elect one name for president elect and three members for the vise president from the list of nominees.
Voting is done at general body meeting.
Voted ballet papers are send back to HQ.
Where the scrutinizing committee headed by the Hon. Gen. sec. counts the votes and tabulates the results.
The Hon. Gen. Sec, Joint. Sec, assist. Sec, Treasurer, Editor of the journal and chairman and Hon. Sec. of the council of dental health are elected at annual gen. body meeting.

Functions of the central council of IDA
A.To frame lows of association
B.Appoint committees, sub committees and standing committees.
C.To consider and decide application for direct membership .
D.To appoint or remove salaried officers and servant of the association.
E.It represent to govt. public bodies
F.All properties of the association is under the control of central council
G.Fund rising or investment of association.
H.Decision of the central council in all matters shall be final.
Annual Gen. Body Meeting of the association
It is held once in every year usually in the month of December.Programs in General body meeting is in the following order.
1.The election of chairman
2.Adoption of annual report for the previous year.
3.Adoption of audited accounts of previous year.
4.Any other motion for changes in the order of business.
5.Election of auditor.
6.Election of office bearers.

In brief, the Indian dental Association is for the well being of dental professionals and dentistry and at the same time they are well concerned with the dental health needs of the Indian citizen and their upliftment in that aspect by conducting and organizing dental health camps in rural area and taking a leading hand in community dental services and such other services for people of India.
