Doreen LopesBorn in Boston, MA on November 15, 1967, Doreen Lopes was welcomed into this world. When she was just three years old, she was adopted by her mother and father. In 1987, she graduated from Dartmouth High School. She then went to school at UMASS Dartmouth
for special studies. Doreen spent time working at Sacred Heart nursing home as the housekeeping staff. She also worked at Ann & Hope stocking shelves and bagging. In December of 2010, she came to Brandon Woods and immediately became a beloved family member of ours. She started coming to the program to keep busy. In her spare time she enjoys working on word search puzzles, listening to music, dancing, watching television and spending time at the beach. Doreen loves the swimming in the ocean, tanning, and playing beach volleyball. And of course, she loves BINGO! While at home, she often enjoys babysitting. Doreen is loved very much here at Brandon Woods and she will always be a part of our special family!
Thank you for being part of our family.

It was a dark and chilly night. The full moon was glowing as it was suspended in the sky above us. As I was walking down the sidewalk covered in leaves, I let out a yelp as I tripped on a stick and tumbled into a bush beside me. I heard laughter from behind and realized I was no longer alone. My heart started racing. It felt as if I were about to pass out as sweat started pouring down my face. I turned my head ever so slightly until a shadow of a man appeared in my peripheral. I started to panic. A hand placed itself on my shoulder. This is it, I thought to myself as my heart started beating faster than ever.“Relax, buddy! It's just me!”I turned around fully and I breathed a sigh of relief. It was my best friend, Jeremy. “Don't you know not to scare someone like that on Halloween night!” I scolded.“What did you think, the boogey man was going to come eat you alive?” He doubled over laughing.“Very funny but I am not laug...Wait what was that noise?” My heart started to race again. We were alone (or so I thought) on a back road...in the dark... on Halloween night as I heard the crunching of leaves behind us. “Is someone following us?” Jeremy muttered in a worried tone.
“Shh. Just keep walking.” I was trying to be the brave one. I started walking forward again and that's when I heard it: the snap of a branch. In the distance I could hear a wolf howling. And just then a bat flew over my head and landed in a tree before us. It sure is spooky out, I thought to myself. I could feel the sweat starting to pool on my neck. My shirt felt damp. Jeremy grabbed onto my arm tightly. His grip was going to leave a mark. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. We picked up our pace as we passed houses with jack-o-lanterns glowing on porches. A branch from a tree brushed up against my back and I jumped a mile. Stay calm. I could hear the footsteps getting closer and closer as my breathing intensified. The crunching of leaves got louder and louder. I need to be brave and turn around. Turn around. TURN. AROUND. As I turned, staring me right in the face was a....“Woof!” The cutest stray dog was wagging its tail and brushing up against my leg.I started laughing the heartiest belly laugh.“Well, Jeremy, did you think it was the boogey man? It is Halloween night after all...”
