The Program for U.S. Lawyers e Inter-American Summer Program in Guatemala is a truly bilingual and inter-cultural approach to legal education. Program participants will gain professional legal and inter-cultural experience useful in the practice of law in Latin America or to work with Latino issues and clients in the United States. e University of Pacic, McGeorge School of Law and the University of Denver Sturm College of Law are proud of their three- year partnership and welcome Gonzaga University School of Law as an aliate. Program Location e program takes place in the charming colonial city of Antigua, Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Pacic McGeorge works closely with several law schools in Guatemala, Chile and Spain. ese collaborations allow for exchanges of professors and students from those regions in the program. Guatemala Legal Spanish Immersion Program!e program is a true immersion Legal Spanish experience for U.S. lawyers. It combines one-on-one Spanish immersion instruction with a structured Legal Spanish classroom component and participation in bilingual legal programming that includes "eld visits to Guatemala’s legal institutions, prominent guest speakers and "lm series, and in-country leisure travel.

Academia de Lenguas La Antigüeña

!e program partners with the Academia de Lenguas La Antigüeña to o$er intensive one-on-one Spanish instruction tailored to the goals and needs of the participant. Instruction is four days a week, between 4-6 hours depending on preference. Some of the learning occurs “while doing Antigua.”

Legal Spanish for U.S. Lawyers

!is course will prepare students with basic Spanish pro"ciency to represent Spanish-speaking clients in the U.S. legal system or to work in Spanish on transnational matters involving Latin America. !e course employs interactive learning, including simulations in client interviewing and counseling and memo writing or oral presentations and provides oral and written feedback on professional legal English and cross-cultural competence issues.

Guest and Film Series and Visits to Guatemala’s Legal Institutions

Once a week, participants participate in guest lecture and "lm series involving prominent legal leaders in Guatemala or in the region. Visits to Guatemala’s legal institutions include the National Congress, the Supreme Court of Guatemala, and the regional mayors of Sololá.

Admissions for Recent U.S. Law School Graduates and U.S. Lawyers!e Inter-American Program in Guatemala is open to any U.S. recent law graduate or practicing attorney interested in learning Legal Spanish and cross-cultural legal competence.

!e cost for recent U.S. law school graduates is $1,700 tuition and an additional mandatory $1,300 program fee. !e total cost is $3,000. !e program fee covers housing with breakfast and the cost of class materials, in-country transportation and meals for program-sponsored events, including weekend travel. You must purchase your own %ights to and from Guatemala.
