In summer 2015, seven MHA students completed their administrative internships with healthcare organizations across Oklahoma. All students will complete a written and oral defense of their internships to a three-member committee.
Please enjoy the following compilation.
Tiffany Boos, Community Hospital, OKC
Tiffany’s internship is taking place at Community Hospital. Her projects are directed towards preparing for the opening of the new North campus on Broadway Extension. Some of the projects include creating workflows, capital expenditure requests, and implementing new electronic systems for both implant tracking and sterile processing in all of our facilities.
Robert Early, Mercy Hospital, OKC
This summer, Robert has been busy working on several projects as follows: a length of stay/cost analysis of the Family Birthplace, developing nursing and co-worker recognition programs to improve retention, conducting a review of the OB Hospitalist program, and a number of small projects focused on patient and co-worker safety. On top of his project workload, Robert is currently in Lean Manager Boot Camp.
John Gordon, Integris, OKC
John has been working with the on-boarding team at INTEGRIS to improve new employee training programs. He was tasked with collecting data to improve efficiency in outpatient departments across multiple facilities and has been working with the Revenue Cycle Team in order to gain a better understanding of the processes and policies involved for employees and patients.
Rachael Gotcher, Hillcrest Hospital, Tulsa
At Hillcrest Medical Center, Rachael is working on different projects such as developing a ranking system for refreshing patient rooms every two years, and tracking the hospital's responses to codes. She also conducts Environment of Care Rounds and Humidity Rounds on a weekly basis.
Brandt Higley, VA Medical Center, OKC
Brandt is immersed in the “Lean” process at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. Brandt says that reducing the amount of time from ER entry to admission decision has reinforced many of the MHA program competencies.
Margaret Travis, Integris, OKC
Margaret has spent her time at INTEGRIS Health working in the Risk Management Department; this includes employee health & disability, asset management, environment health and safety. She has participated in the Intensive Analysis Group which looks at manufacture recalls, events which require root cause analysis and accompanied a Joint Commission Surveyor on his rounds when the Joint Commission was at Integris Baptist Medical Center.
Chandler Welch, St. John’s Health System, Tulsa
Chandler is working on the development and pilot implementation of telestroke and telemedicine (other uses) programs at St. John’s in Tulsa.
A huge thank you to all of our preceptors and host healthcare organizations!
