FootprintsOne night a man had a dream. He dreamed

he was walking along the beach with theLord. Across the sky �ashed scenes from hislife. For each scene, he noticed two sets of

footprints in the sand; one belonging to him,and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life �ashed beforehim, he looked back at the footprints in thesand. He noticed that many times along the

path of his life there was only one set of footprints.He also noticed that it happened at the

very lowest and saddest times in his life. thisreally bothered him and he questioned theLord about it, “ Lord, you said that once Idecided to follow you, you’d walk with me

all the way. But I have noticed that during thetroublesome times in my life, there is only

one set of footprints. I don’t understand whywhen I needed you most you would leave

me.” �e Lord replied, “ My precious, preciouschild, I love you and I would never

leave you. During your times of trial and su�ering,when you see only one set of footprints,

it was then that I carried you.”

What is dying?

I am standing on the seashore.

A ship at my side spreads her white

sails to the morning breeze and starts

out for the Blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty

and I stand and watch her until at

Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamedhe was walking along the beach with theLord. Across the sky flashed scenes from hislife. The Rose Beyond the wall

What is dying?

I am standing on the seashore.

A ship at my side spreads her white

sails to the morning breeze and starts

out for the Blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty

and I stand and watch her until at

length she fades on the far horizon.

Then someone at my side says,

“There, she has gone” – Gone where?

Gone from my sight - that is all. She is

just as large in mast, hull and spar as

she was when she left my side.

The diminished size is in me and not in

her, and just at that moment when

someone by my side says, “ She’s

gone,” there are others to takeup the

glad shout – “there she comes.”

And that is dying.


When I must leave you for a little while,
