In Depth with E liquid

E liquid is the fluid used in Electronic cigarettes instead of tobacco like in regular cigarettes. It makes the

smoking experience entirely different turning it into digital smoking unlike tobacco smoking. Along with

so many other elements, an E liquid is mainly composed of three major ingredients.

The Nicotine

The flavors

The base or Diluents

The Nicotine

Nicotine is normally solid at room temperature. Other diluents or bases are added in it to convert into

liquid. It is the addictive ingredient in E liquid but also slightly lethal. The nicotine density mentioned on

E-liquid bottle indicates the number of milligrams of Nicotine per milliliter like this mg/ml. Different

strengths of Nicotine are available in different brands and vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. But

it’s totally upto a consumer that which quantity or strength of Nicotine is to be chosen for vaping. One

must consult any Nicotine strength guide for E liquid before selecting a quantity of it. Though there is

not any hard and fast rule for Nicotine concentration in an E liquid flavor but some general guidelines

are followed by almost every other vaper. Followings are the general Nicotine strengths available in E

liquids.

0mg/ml Nicotine

This shows that there is no Nicotine in E-Liquid mixture at all. This kind of E liquid serves best when a

smoker has to quit smoking but still have an oral fixation and use an E cigarette to gratify it.

6mg/ml Nicotine

This strength of Nicotine is the lightest one offered in any E liquid. The persons wish to enjoy the

slightest Nicotine touch in consort with enjoying a full E-liquid taste. This is commonly the last level in

"stepping."

12mg/ml Nicotine

On the lower end of the spectrum, 12mg/ml Nicotine is a comfortable strength for people who prefer

vaping, but aren't heavy vapers. Also suitable for smoking switchers with lighter tobacco cigarettes.

18mg/ml Nicotine

This is the middle of the road in terms of Nicotine strength. Most of the former smokers prefer this

strength because it delivers the perfect amount of Nicotine in each puff.

24mg/ml Nicotine

This one is on the higher side of Nicotine strengths and commonly used by people who were formally

the heavy smokers (about a pack per day). It has more visible Nicotine responsiveness or you may call

more addictive sense.

36mg/ml Nicotine

This is the highest Nicotine concentration usually for heavy addicts of Nicotine irrespective of being

former smoker or regular vaper. It is also the highest Nicotine strength offered by most of the

companies because above this point of Nicotine concentration, it gets riskier and dangerous for vaper.

54mg/ml Nicotine

This is the highest Nicotine strength available in the

market commonly and is not recommended at all. It is

extremely dangerous to be used and not supported

usually. Though exceptions are always there and some

vapers enjoy this strength too.

Flavoring

Nicotine itself is tasteless. Hence artificial or naturally

derived food flavors are added in it to bring up taste in

an E liquid. Of course naturally derived flavors are

better than the artificial ones. Almost all the flavors

used in E liquids are the same used in other food items

like candies and desserts etc. A huge variety of food

flavors are available such as fruits flavors, tobacco,

menthols, berries only, desserts flavors, chocolates,

caramel, honey, etc. and are liked and used by most of

the young users.

Page 3: In depth with E liquid

Traditional flavors like coffee, vanilla, cigar, lips, hookah for traditional users are also there to make

there vaping experience more indulging.

Even some new users or smoking switchers also like such flavors. It utterly depends on the choice and

nature of vaper that how would s/he like it. So there is also DIY “Do it yourself” and custom e liquid

making available by some E liquid companies. Plus different brands taste different even in same flavors.

Maybe you like a blend of berry and dessert e liquid flavor of a company but don’t find good the very

same flavor of another country.

The base or Diluents

Vegetable Glycerin (VG)

Vegetable Glycerin or VG in an all-natural liquid. It is majorly extracted from plants oils like coconut oil,

soy, palm oil etc. it is relatively sweeter in taste with a bit higher viscosity than PG base, slight hint of

color and almost odorless. Therefore it can produce thicker clouds when used in E liquids. The main

applications of Vegetable Glycerin are food production, cosmetics products, and e-juices of course. It is

held safe by U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Propylene Glycol (PG)

Propylene Glycol or PG is an organic compound made out of Propylene Oxide. It retains low

viscosity which means higher concentration of it is required in order to make thicker fumes out

of your E liquid. It is almost inodorous and a colorless compound. It is less viscous than VG base

and easier to handle when (re)filling your atomizer, cartomizer, or clearomizer.

It is held safe by U.S. Food and Drug Administration. But the negative side is that in case of

sensitivity, it may cause some allergic reactions to some users. Therefore you can use 100% VG

base e liquid to avoid the reaction. The main applications for Propylene Glycol are solvents,

humectants, preservatives in food, tobacco products, pharmaceutical products, and certainly e-

juice.

Page 4: In depth with E liquid

Mixing PG and VG Bases

A mixture of the bases is used by most of the E liquid manufacturing companies to expose the positivity

of both in their products. But of course different concentrations are used according to requirements of

an e liquid variant by all the respective brands. Normally these ratios are used like 50/50, 60/40 or

70/30. But there is no hard and fast rule. You can even set the best ratio for your own E liquid as per

your choice. The super reactions you may get after balancing both the diluents are:

Throat hit

Vapor density

Flavor intensity

Balanced PH level

To enjoy the best vaping

experience, try to recognize your

own desired first. You can get a

variety of flavors in small quantity

not to get stuck with huge e juice

bottles later if the taste doesn’t

appeal you.
