Dear Friends,

Let all that is within me bless the Lord. [Psalm 103:1]

Saint Paul, in his Second Letter to the Corinthians, speaks of the traits of divine love. It is patient, kind and bears all things. Human love is called to imitate. He contrasts its effects in our lives by its sincerity and depth as opposed to being a ‘noisy gong or clanging cymbal’.

An apt image that demonstrates a connection between what is in our heart and what gets translated out for others to see and feel. Fifty years later, Saint Ignatius of Antioch, in going to his own martyrdom, captures a similar image in speaking to his congregation. He wishes to become an ‘intelligible utterance’, as opposed to Paul’s words, a noisy gong or clang-ing cymbal.

How hard that can be in the doing. There is much in us that echoes and bounces and is distracting. Are not our journeys wrapped up in being that ‘intelligible utterance’ to ourselves, to others, to God?

Like Ignatius and Paul, this too is our journey. And like all journeys, it happens in the doing, not perfectly or complete all at once, but always within the day and moment God gives each of us. Let us pray that all with-in us blesses the Lord.

It is not men that I want to gratify, but God, just as you habitually do. I shall never have a better chance than this of getting to God; and you on your part will never have a finer piece of work to your credit, if only you will keep your lips sealed. For by staying silent and letting me alone, you can turn me into an intelligible utterance of God; but if your affections are only concerned with my poor human life, then I become a mere meaning-less cry once more. This favour only I beg of you: suffer me to be a libation poured out to God, while there is still an altar ready for me…. How good it is to be sinking down below the world’s horizon towards God, to rise later into the dawn of His presence! [Saint Ignatius of Antioch]

Sincerely,

Fr. Beaudin

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS:

Religious Education registration forms for 2018-2019 have been mailed out. If you did not receive forms for your children or if you have a child who will be joining the program this fall, please contact Veronica in the Religious Education office at 878-9280 or email:

[email protected]

PARENTS OF 2018-2019 FIRST GRADERS: If you have a child entering first grade in September and did not receive a registration form for the parish Religious Education program, please contact the Religious Education office at the numbers above. Parents are reminded that per Diocesan policy, a child is required to attend and complete both grade one and grade two in order to make First Holy Communion unless your child attends Catholic school or you are a registered home-schooling family. However, if your child did not attend first grade Religious Education, arrangements can easily be made to get him/her caught up over the summer before the start of the second grade in Septem-ber.

There are several opportunities to serve the parish in the Religious Educa-tion program. At this point, there are openings for classroom aides in grades 4, 5 and 7. In addition, teachers (or co-teachers) are needed for grades 6 and 7. If you would like more information or to volunteer, please contact the Religious Education office.

FLOWERS FOR MARY, OUR BLESSED MOTHER: With sum-mer upon us and flowers coming into bloom, please consider donating flowers from your garden to place at the statue of Our Lady of Grace in the sanctuary. Vases are available in the green cabinet in the closet behind the organ. Please feel free to take a vase home and return it full of flowers. You may also bring flowers to the church on Fridays between 9 AM and noon or to which ever weekend Mass you attend. Flowers can be pre-pared in the sink in the storage closet. If you have any questions, please call Veronica at 879-1642. Thank you!!

Saint Francis Xavier School is hosting a “Meet and Greet” with Princi-pal Eric Becker and other members of the school community on Thurs-day, June 28 from 8:00 to 9:00 AM and from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Families interested in learning more about St. Francis are invited to stop by to see if St. Francis is the right educational choice for their children. St. Francis serves students from Pre-School (age 3) to 8th grade. Call 65502600 or email: [email protected] for more information.

The Rice High School Boys’ Prep Hockey team is currently seeking host families for players for next season. Prep players come from all over the United States and around the world. Host families are required to provide the necessities for the student athletes: a room, 3 meals a day and transportation to and from school as needed. Host families are provided with a generous stipend which can be applied toward tuition at Rice. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who loves hockey and/or families with children attending or bound for Rice. For more information, contact Coach Dennis Vickers at (636) 697-5776; (802) 862-6521 or email:

[email protected].

DEPLOYMENT—Do you have a family member, neighbor or friend who was recently deployed to the Middle East? Please consider writing his/her name in the book at the stained glass window of Mary. The book and candle that is light every night are visible reminders to the parish to pray for our loved ones serving overseas.

DID YOU KNOW?? THE SHRINE OF THE UNBORN: The Shrine of Our Lady of Grace in Memory of the Unborn is primarily in-tended to be a memorial to all those children who died before they were born, either because of miscarriage or abortion. In these cases, there is usually no body to bury or grave as a place of remembrance. There can be therefore, difficulty in bringing “closure” to the tragedy and loss.

As part of the healing process, mothers and fathers are invited to name the child, symbolically “bury” the child’s name at the Shrine and thus have a place to memorialize the child. The child has a place of remembrance at the feet of Our Lady who also lost Her beloved Child.

Families who have lost a child in other circumstance such as SIDS, can-cer, automobile accident etc. are also invited to memorialize their child at the Shrine.

The relics of The Holy Innocents were inserted in the altar because The Holy Innocents have long been considered the Patron Saints of aborted children who have no birthday.

The Shrine is a place of prayer, reconciliation, healing and peace.

It has been lovingly cared for every summer for many years by Nancy and Steve Lamothe and their family.
