The moment is finally here. RUNWAY REVIEW

Payal Singhal presented her interpretation of the summer bride fragranced with the aroma of jasmine and turmeric and the mystical chaos of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Evening gowns, lehenga cholis, saris crafted from textured georgettes, silks, brocades, tulle and taffeta embellished with pita kora work and filigree with gota, moti took center stage. The showing drew to a close with Tanisha Mukherjee in a stunning navy and gold lehenga.

Have you ever cried yourself to sleep? The collection of conceptual jewellery showcased by the very talented and charming Eina Ahluwalia is a gentle reminder that even though the business of living can sometimes leave us bleeding, there is a place we can go to for all our answers and our strength. Deep within us is a place of magic, a river of gold and bliss... dip your hands in the river and you will have what you need. The deeper you go, the more you glow! This is a collection of

jewels that reminded us of the most precious

jewel... one that all of us already own and

may have forgotten… the Golden Light within.Ruchika Sachdeva took inspiration from history

and machines... architecture and anatomy... the deep blue sea and marine life for her colors, textures and silhouettes. The silhouettes moved from playsuits to maxis, jackets and feminine blouses with an unconventional construction. We loved the layered shoulders, the skirts with external peplum panels and the drop crotch pants teamed.

'Kundalini Project' inspired by the Vedic Indian symbolism from Nupur Kanoi was an imaginative line of clothing to suit the coming season. Using fabric tapes as a constant embellishment, Nupur created geometric patterns that acted as surface decoration for the tonal blue tape jacket, the chiffon vest with miniature pockets and the double layered zipped vest with overlap mini pockets, the georgette playsuit and the knot waist coat.

'Metropolitan Jungle' by Shashank Raj and Prajwal Badwe took inspiration from the speed and chaos of contemporary city life. Presenting innovative forms, the duo worked around blotting art and paper cut-out techniques and brought them

skillfully onto apparel to create 3D effects. There was a clever play of sheer with the opaque fabrics along with prints that were visible from within. Sharp angular cuts edged in black and construction techniques like vertical swinging flaps, grouped 3D pleats and cutwork gave a finishing touch to the bustier dress, the cutwork bolero, the crimpled and ruched printed sheer maxi with bodice and the printed sheer gown.

It was a robotic fashion trek that could have made Captain James Kirk announce 'warp speed' to his crew had he seen the 'Untitled' collection by Swapnil Shinde. His list of inspirations ranged from tribal, raw, dramatic, spiritual, futuristic and dark celebratory angles that recreated the sci-fi movies and music of the 80s... unconventional with an edgy feel. With layering and texturing as his focal points, Swapnil opened the show with rolls of black and white acrylic with neon space boots, followed by satin pantsuits, slit layered chiffon skirts and front drape pencil skirts. The finale was reserved for black, white and gold leather corsets teamed with flowing layered skirts.

From corsetry to sequins sheeting, appliqué work to crystal application, Siddhartha Tytler showed beautifully embellished kaftans, deconstructed dresses and gowns... sharply cut jackets, trousers and 'fit n flare' corsetry... swimwear and body suits with dori work, appliqués, color blocking and negative sheeting. We loved the gleaming corsets with side peplums, the satin jumpsuits with drop shoulders, the zippered mutton chop-sleeved creation and the will-power brocade sheath!

Neha Agarwal presented an edgy fun look with casual silhouettes created from satin, silk, chiffon and mulmul. Embellished with on metallic cutwork sequins and hand painting with leaf and dew drop prints. We loved the purple hand painted dress worn with a moss green jacket embellished with scallops, the cross over white dress, the sari worn with a hip length curved hemline blouse and knit drop waist maxi... accessorized with multi-leaf brooches.

Inspired by insects, Rimi Nayak showed a fabulous study of construction. Embroidery reflected the tactile tentacles of ants while block and digital printing techniques brought the inspiration to life on khadi, tussore, crepe, georgette and silk Lurex. A sari sprinkled with tiny insect motifs worn with an extended shoulder choli opened the show followed by maxi dresses with cutout shoulders, layered dresses, jackets with scaled sleeves and a futuristic robotic creation... great conversation pieces for the cocktail circuit.

Behind the scenes

Nina's Model DiarySupermodel Nina Manuel (one of India's leading fashion models and television presenters for over a decade and host of The Light of India Awards in New York) has flown down from New York to host bytes with designers and celebrities... model diaries... backstage and front row action... trends and forecasts... and a whole lot more on Max Bupa LFW TV. ''I have been a model during Lakmé Fashion Week for many years and this season... seeing the excitement and camaraderie of the models backstage and watching the showings... is a delightful reminder of those days.

I am thankful to the team of Lakmé Fashion Week and IMG Reliance who have really taken care of me and it was really nice to work with them to anchor Max Bupa LFW TV. This season we have seen so many fresh creative designs including that of Nupur Kanoi this morning and I am really looking forward to the grand finale by designer Rohit Bal,'' she tells us before her next interview with Pradeep Hirani.
