A commemoration and reflection on the First World War through Art song.

With The Miranda Wright Singers accompanied by acclaimed pianist David Murray

The ever popular and stunning virtuoso playing of the Royal Northern Sinfonia leader can be

heard for the third time at St Mary’s. Programme will include the usual mix of romantic violin

and piano duo repertoire and the inevitable Hungarian gipsy pot boilers.

This programme features the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story - which forever

changed the model of the American Musical - and possibly the most seminal work of the 20th

century, Stavinsky’s The Rite of Spring. Played on two grand pianos by Eileen Brown and

David Murray.

A glittering array of young artists: pianists, clarinettists and singers all about to engage on a

musical career. As well as solos from these individuals there will be ensemble items. You

will be amazed at the professionalism and skill of these young musicians.

Some of the greatest popular songs to emerge from the pens of American composers.

Gershwin, Jerome Kern, The Carpenters, Cole Porter and other are represented here.

Orchestrated by David Murray and performed by the Bishopwearmouth Choral Society.
