There was a little glitch in the take-off, with an equipment mal-function (bet- ter that than a wardrobe malfunc- tion!); then boy did they fly! At- tendees chanted the band into two encores, finishing with Seven Bridges Road in perfect harmony. The 40 th Annual Founder’s Event was a great evening of wonderful food, delightful fellowship and entertainment that took us all back a few decades to our bell-bottom wearing days! We cannot thank our community enough for the depth of generosity we witnessed And the Eagle Took Flight! Saturday evening. You took the words found in 1 John 3:17 to heart and transformed them into actions. “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his broth- er in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?” The Founder’s Board will now have the funds to the grant requests of residents coming to them in need. The Founder’s Board is to be revered for their planning and im- plementation of this event, as well as their commitment throughout the year to the managing of the benevolent grants. Once again, Jim Steiert wins the award for most amazing publicist; getting us on channels 4 and 10, and in every paper in a 100 mile radius! Sharon Hodges, Kris Dollar, Bill Bridge, Brenda Paschel and Da- vid Fanning each provided their own brand of talent and labors to the event. Becky Williams, Social Services Director and Admissions Coordinator is an ex-officio mem- ber of the board and comes to ev- ery 7:00 a.m. meeting, and is an invaluable part of the team. Brooklyn. Those in attendance at K.M. events these past couple of years have watched Brooklyn grow a foot, and mature into quite the talented auctioneer. In fact, she got downright sassy with the bidders this year! This precious family always adds to the enter-tainment value of any event they attend.

Brenda Blacksher did a won-derful job with the “Hotel Cali-fornia” decorations; she and the Manor residents had their own record label company going in the Lamar room! Larry Carlson, Maintenance Director and Josh Coneway hauled food back and forth and Scott Ward cooked the yummy beans. We had hordes of volunteers including Scott and Shane Wilcox, several of Coach Delozier’s football boys, (includ-ing his two sons), and ROTC kids who helped serve attendees. Stel-la and Melissa hauled the band from here to there, and showed them Hereford hospitality. An-other quick story about Hereford Hospitality; the band went to eat breakfast Saturday morning and met former board of direc-tor’s member Kathy Allison and husband Edward. After the guys had eaten, they went to check out and found that the Allison’s had picked up their tab. “That never happens to us in L.A.” gushed band member Gary.

Our dietary staff did a wonder-ful job on the delicious potato sal-ad, coleslaw and cobblers. They were feeding all of our residents even as they fed all the event at-tendees. Edes Meats gets credit for the delicious meat. The kitch-

Manor newsWith August here and a glimpse

of autumn around the corner I am looking forward to a change of sea-sons. On August 2nd the Nazarene Youth group will be volunteering to provide a craft class in the Lamar Room at 3pm with the residents. At 5pm they will be grilling hamburg-ers for Assisted and Independent residents to eat in the Lamar Room with fellowship and music follow-ing. This is just one of the many spe-cial events planned for the month of August. Be sure and check your ac-tivity calendar for upcoming events. King’s Manor has always been blessed to have so many volunteers throughout the years. If you are in-terested in volunteering I have sev-eral available positions that are open at the Manor. Please come by or call and I would love to visit with you

Westgate NewsAnother month has passed by and

another Founder’s BBQ. The food, the auction and the entertainment were all great. All the staff, the Board and volunteers worked very hard for another Founder’s event. This great event would not have been possible without everyone’s participation especially the people who attended

and all the sponsors. Thank you to everyone and we thank God for another wonderful success. We finished out the month of July with cantaloupe and watermelon social and we start the month of August with a monthly birthday party. Other special events taking place in August are, on the 8th bakery breads, on the 10th a cook-out in the gazebo. On the 15th fun in the sun with childcare, on the 17th doughnuts, on the 22nd coke floats, on the 29th sno-cones, and a summer party on the 31st. Read the calendar daily for all other scheduled activities. Family Night is scheduled for September 20th so we look forward to seeing you there. Have a blessed month and enjoy the rest of your summer.

en staff is amazing in their ability to coordinate this giant undertak-ing and making it delectable.

Special thanks to Laura Cer-vantes, Administrative Assistant for all of her organization of cor-respondence, ticket sales, etc. She has taken to her new position like a fish to water!

The presence and support of the community through sponsor-ships; auction items; auction par-ticipation; and ticket purchase was, once again, mindboggling. It is impossible to thank you all enough for your support, through so many avenues. Over $64,000 was brought in, before expenses. All of these funds go into a re-stricted account which is only ac-cessed by a majority vote of the Founder’s board. Seven residents of King’s Manor are currently re-ceiving grants from the Benevo-lent Fund.

The evening was also an op-portunity for you to see the kind of people that work at King’s Manor. Did you happen to notice all of the office staff, employees from Assisted Living, and Samaritan Hospice and every department head were at the event? They all had a role to fill and did so with-out really even being asked. Our new CEO, Stoney Gleisner was able to witness for himself what I have been trying to explain; that King’s Manor is unique in the depth of generosity and support of this community, and in the de-votion of our employees in every department. The staff are excep-tional professionals and their lov-ing spirits and dedication to the mission of King’s Manor is what makes King’s Manor exceptional.

The staff, Board of Directors and Founder’s Board, as well as the community of volunteers and sup-porters have followed the mission of Don Davidson and the original founders to “Care for the genera-tions through the healing hands of Christ” in order to create and sus-tain this wonderful place.

You are all forever imprinted on my heart,
