In learning English, first the most important thing to thinking about is

vocabulary , especially for young learners like Elementary school

students.Vocabulary is one of the most important components of any language

class. Nouns is very important because its structure is used in every day

conversation. English nouns are words used to name a person, animal, place,

thing, or abstract ideas. Nouns is the most important part of vocabulary, it would

be hard to talk about something without nouns because noun can serve as the

subject or object.Teaching media has been used in this research to improve the

English noun vocabulary mastery. Colored Pictures is media which can help the

students to improve their English noun vocabulary mastery. This research has purposes to find out the answerof the statement of the problem.

The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out if Colored Picture can improve the

English noun vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 in

academic year 2014/2015, (2) to know how is the classroom atmosphere when Colored

Picture is applied to improve the English noun vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade

students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 in academic year 2014/2015

This research is a classroom action research (CAR). In 1 cycle of CAR

consists of 4 steps; planning, acting, observing, and reflection. The subject of this

research is the fifth grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 Pati class B which

consists of 26 students. In this research, the writer uses two instruments; test and

observation sheet.

The result of this research shows that there was improvement in English

noun vocabulary mastery of the students taught by using Colored Pictures. It was

proved by the improvement of the students’ score from the cycle 1 to the cycle 2.

In cycle 1, many students got score under passing grade. 18 students were failed

and 8 were passed in doing the first test. The average score of the students in cycle

1 was 63,2. While in cycle 2, 23 students were passed and only 3 students were

failed in doing the test. The average score of the students in cycle 2 was 74.An

improvement also happened in students’ activity. It can be seen in cycle 2. There

were many students became active in the class. Most of them responded and gave

attention to the teacher during the teaching and learning process. It was different

with the previous condition in cycle 1 in which many students did not be active in

the class.

Seeing the process and results of this research, the writer concludes that

Colored Pictures can improve the English noun vocabulary mastery of the fifth

grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 Pati in academic year 2014/2015 and the

use of Colored Pictures can help the students to be active in the class. The writer

suggests that the English teacher should apply a good media in teaching and

learning process. Colored Pictures can be used as a good media in teaching

vocabulary. In fact, the media can improve the English noun vocabulary mastery

of the fifth grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 Pati in academic year

2014/2015.

Dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, hal terpenting yang perlu di perhatikan

adalah kosa kata, khususnya untuk anak-anak seperti murid Sekolah Dasar. Kosa

kata adalah salah satu bagian terpenting dari kelas kata. Kosa kata benda sangat

penting karena fungsi dari kosa kata benda itu sendiri, struktur kosa kata benda

digunakan dalam percakapan sehari-hari. Kosa kata benda bahasa Inggris adalah

kata yang digunakan untuk menyebut nama orang, hewan, tempat, benda, atau ide

pemikiran. Kata benda adalah bagian terpenting dari kosa kata, akan sangat sulit

untuk berbicara tenatang sesuatu tanpa menggunakan kata benda karena kata

benda dapat berfungsi sebagai subjek atau objek dalam kalimat. Media

pembelajaran telah digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan

penguasaan kosa kata bahasa Inggris. Colored Pictures adalah media yang dapat

membantu siswa untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata benda mereka.

Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian tindakan kelas. Pada satu siklus

penelitian tindakan kelas terdiri dari 4 langkah; perencanaan, tindakan,

pengamatan dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah kelas lima B dari SDN

Wedarijaksa 02 Pati yang terdiri dari 26 siswa. Pada penelitian ini peneliti

menggunakan dua instrumen yaitu tes dan lembar observasi.

Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pada

penguasaan kosa kata bahasa Inggris siswa diajarkan menggunakan media

Colored Pictures. Itu dibuktikan dari hasil tes. Bukti tersebut bisa dilihat dari

peningkatan nilai yang diperoleh siswa dari siklus 1 ke siklus 2. Di siklus 1,

banyak siswa yang mendapatkan nilai di bawah KKM. 18 siswa gagal dan 8 lulus

dalam mengerjakan tes yang pertama. Rata-rata nilai siswa di siklus 1 yaitu 63,2.

Sedangkan di siklus 2, 23 siswa lulus dan 3 siswa gagal dalam mengerjakan tes.

Rata-rata nilai siswa di siklus 2 adalah 74.

Peningkatan juga terjadi pada kegiatan siswa. Itu bisa terlihat di siklus 2.

Banyak siswa yang aktif di dalam kelas. Kebanyakan mereka merespon dan

memerhatikan guru selama process pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Kondisi ini

berbeda dengan sebelumnya dimana banyak siswa tidak aktif di dalam

kelas.Melihat dari proses dan hasil dari penelitian ini, Penulis menyimpulkan

bahwa Colored pictures dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata benda bahasa

Inggris siswa kelas lima SDN Wedarijaska 02 Pati tahun akademik 2014/2015 dan

penggunaaan Colored Pictures bisa membantu siswa menjadi aktif di dalam kelas.
