Impressionism and Post-Impressionism Vocabulary 1. Landscape- a painting or drawing of the land or a natural environment 2. Portrait - a picture or likeness of a person. 3. Impressionism- a style of painting characterized by a concentration on the general scene or object and the way light effects the scene or object. 4. En Plein Air - French for “in the open air.” Sketching or painting outdoors, as opposed to in a studio 5. Still life - a painting or drawing of flowers, fruit, or other assorted objects 6. Brushstroke- the movement of an artists brush full of paint or ink on a surface. 7. Tight brush stroke- when the brushstrokes on a painting are not visible, giving the art a polished look 8. Loose brush stroke- when specific strokes from a brush are visible on a painting
