TRAKTOR PRO/SCRATCH PRO Tutorial: Importing Cover Art –
1. Adding missing cover art in TRAKTORAdding cover art to your collection helps you find tracks quickly and even works with file formats that would normally not support artwork (such as AIFF, WAV).
This tutorial will show you how quick and easy it is to add missing cover art in TRAKTOR PRO and TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO.
TRAKTOR PRO and TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO can display cover art as part of a Track’s list entry.
First you need a source for the cover art. In this example we use the web page www.discogs.com. This page contains a lot of general information about different artists, including reviews and discographies, as well as a huge artwork database.

1. To find a specific cover art, just visit the website and type in the name of the album or single you are looking for.
2. When you have found the correct artwork, you are ready to start. Just right click on the cover and choose „save Image as...“ from the drop-down menu. Save the cover art file to a temporary location like your desktop:

3. Rename the file in a clear way that so you will be able to assign the right cover to the appropriate track.
4. Now you are ready to link the audio file with the corresponding cover art. Launch TRAKTOR PRO or TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO and right click on the relevant audio file.
5. Choose „Import Cover“ from the drop-down menu and select the image you want to add from where you saved the cover art.
6. That‘s it. It really is that easy to add artwork to your tracks.

Afterwards you can delete the cover from the temporary location because TRAKTOR has saved the artwork into the file.
Please note – TRAKTOR PROWhen adding covers to tracks in TRAKTOR, the cover information is NOT written into the standard ID3 tag of the files, but into an additional TRAKTOR PRO tag chunk AND into a separate cover art folder.
When importing tracks, TRAKTOR PRO only reads covers contained in the standard ID3 tag of the files.
If the file contains cover information in the TRAKTOR PRO tag chunk AND in the standard ID3 tag of the files, only the first one is displayed.

2. Adding missing cover art using 3rd party softwareThere are several 3rd party applications available that can automatically add cover art to a huge number of tracks at once.
The important thing about such software is that it has to write the cover art information into the ID3 tag of the corresponding mp3 file. Otherwise the cover art will not be dis-played in TRAKTOR.
2.1 Tune Up (PC/Mac coming)
Tune Up is an iTunes plug-in, so you need iTunes to be able to use this application. Tune Up scans your current playlist for missing cover art and automatically starts searching its database for the appropriate cover. After choosing the right cover you just need to click on “save” and the cover art information will be written into the file tags.

2.2 Mp3tag (PC)
Mp3tag is an easy to use tagging application. It is possible just to drag & drop cover art files into the designated area and let the application save that change into the mp3 tag.
2.3 Sofa (Mac)
Displays the cover art of the currently playing track in a floating window. Right click on the cover and choose “show in finder” and you will see that this application saves the shown covers automatically to your hard drive. Then simply drag & drop the downloaded cover to the iTunes cover area.

2.4 Embed Artwork v1.1 (Mac)
The Embed Artwork script from the collection of “Doug’s Apple Scripts for iTunes” writes your iTunes cover art into the mp3 tag.

3. Adding missing cover art using iTunesIt is also possible to add your cover art via iTunes. Therefore you just need to find the relevant cover from any source (like discogs.com).
Afterwards, open the iTunes application and select the track you want to add the cover to. In the lower left corner you see a panel that normally shows the cover art of the playing track. If you don’t see this panel just click on the little arrow pointing up located in the lower left corner.
Now go to the location where you have saved the cover art file you want to add and just drag & drop it into the empty area designated for the artwork.
It is possible that during this progress you will have a short interruption of playback but this only indicates that your system is writing the cover art into the file.
When the cover art has been written into the mp3 file you will be able to see the artwork in the cover art column of the TRAKTOR PRO browser:

Please note – iTunesWhen tracks are purchased from the iTunes Online Shop, the cover information is NOT written into the files, but into a separate cover art folder. These covers will therefore not show up in TRAKTOR after importing.
In order to write cover information into the standard ID3 tag of the files with iTunes, they have to be manually dragged into the iTunes cover window.
To transfer the cover art of purchased tracks from the cover art folder into the standard ID3 tag of the files, you need to right click on the cover shown in the artwork area of iTunes and choose “copy”. Then right click again and choose “paste”. Now the cover art will be written into the ID3 tag.
