Important Tips on Autistic Care: Advice to Follow and What to Expect
• Autism is a condition that needs special care for the people that suffer from
the problem. Professionals in the medical field not the only ones who are
abided to caring for the special citizen but it is the responsibility of every
citizen to maintain sympathy and provide help to them whenever the need
arises. The major role when dealing with an autistic child is the parents and
immediate family members of the child. These members have adopted
various ways to help their special family member to develop him or herself.
However, there are certain rules that need to be adhered to while enrolling a
child in autistic rehabilitation or correcting behavior. The rules, or advice as
we can say, are compiled citing common problems and misconceptions that
are usually in the minds of caretakers. The set of advice below is not
mandatory and is given only as helpful tips based on interactions and
response of families that are raising autistic members.

Treat with compassion
Every human yearns for love and love has the ability to change the world of a person andhimself. Therefore, every person – be it the therapist or the parents, should becompassionate and be with the kids from the bottom of their heart while treating them.
Be quality-centric
Teach what a child needs to know and not what he should know. For instance,he needs to remember who his brother is and not of the animal on the TV.Though knowledge is important, what is priority is the acquaintance withimmediate surroundings that will eventually refine the child’s Quality of Life.
Measure spontaneity, not force
Improvement in condition has to be taken note of when the child initiates anactivity by his or her own will. Telling him to perform a task and the child doesit, does not amount to improvement of the child.
Be patient with the patient
It takes time to learn any skill and autistic people are blessed when it comes toremembering things and doing them, often repeatedly. However, that does notmean that every task and everything would be learnt by him or her at any age.Learning to throw a ball may take years while counting up to 100 may be aneasy task. So be patient and give the child a whole life to learn.
Old is not gold, at least here.
While some doctors may suggest a specific set of therapies to best suit thechild, it may not be necessarily so. Science has done a lot of research in autismbut varying results or lack of knowledge about latest developments in the Fieldof Autism Care may lead the doctor to suggest conventional ways to treat thechild.
Learn certain crucial scientific aspects.
There are three major aspects that are taken into consideration whilemonitoring development: Regulation, co-regulation and communication up tosharing of experience. The more you, as parents, learn about theseconcepts, the easier it is for you to understand and develop communicationskills.
Treat, not ‘over-treat’.
Do not be under the impression that subjecting children to excess of therapymay expedite their improvement chances. Though they are autistic, they arechildren first and their mind can take only what it can imbibe in a session. Restof it they learn as mentioned in the above piece of advice 6. Also, refer thepoint 4 and give them time.
