MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Congratulations to all the artists included in this year’s Scholastic Arts Award Show. The work created by students in this area of Michigan is consistently strong in concept and execution, and this year’s exhibition is outstanding.
The quality of this work reflects the excellent high school art programs and the ability of the high school art teachers to provide programs that are of such a high level that it is the College’s privilege to work with them. The ability and dedication of these teachers results in art programs in which students create work of professional caliber.
People often think that achieving excellence in art is nothing more than a matter of talent or an inherent gift. But accomplishment in any art form requires discipline and commitment that reflect
the value the creative person places on his or her “gift” and provide the strength of purpose to continue to develop that gift into an expression of self that both inspires and impresses those who see the work. This year’s exhibition ultimately demonstrates the results of those hours and hours of work that have gone into nurturing and valuing the gift of creative visual expression.
DR. OLIVER H. EVANSPresident/Vice ChancellorKendall College of Art and Designof Ferris State University
