PARENTING SUPPORT
Welcome to today’s newsletter. Our ‘Parenting Support’
article for this week is called ‘Would You Please Behave’.
This article reminds us of the importance of good parent
etiquette at our children’s sporting events. I know from my own personal experi-
ence it is very easy to get caught in the moment and we must try to be mindful
of strategies to temper our (at times) excessive enthusiasm. If you would like to
discuss any parts of this article please come and see me. Also, don’t forget the
parenting resources from Michael Grose on display in the office. These may be
borrowed from Jenni Martin.
UPDATES
Last week 45 of our students completed in the ‘Australian Schools’ Triathlon
Challenge’. Thanks to all of the parents who supported this event with
transport and care on the day.
During November we have had several visits from our ‘Foundation 2017’ stu-
dents. Thank you to Miss Clark and Mr Walz for hosting these visits and a
big welcome to all of our new families!
Thank you to the parents who attended last night’s ‘Fundraising Meeting’.
This meeting is open to all members of our school community. Also
please consider purchasing a Christmas Tree and/or a Christmas Pudding
from our school. We also require hamper donations for our raffle.
Thanks to all of the parents who have already donated.
As stated in previous newsletters we will be implementing a new literacy
program in 2017. The program will have an emphasis on ‘Synthetic Phon-
ics’ and will focus on new content and pedagogy in the Prep
(Foundation) to Year 2 area, with targeted intervention in Years 3 to 6.
One of the big changes you will see in 2017 will be a much greater em-
phasis on explicit teaching and direct instruction. Please come and see
me if you would like more information or an update.
Please ensure your child is wearing correct uniform. Remember broad
brimmed hats are compulsory this term. See me with any concerns.

ing and writing numbers. In Writing we are working on improving the structure of our recounts.
This Friday will be the last day of spelling stars testing for this year.
1/2’s—Week 8: We are getting excited about our dinner and sleepover. Don’t forget to return
all signed notes to the classroom or office. This Week: It was our last week of Swimming Lessons
on Wednesday. The Swimming Sports will be on the 14th December so check diaries or newslet-
ter for details. This Friday is the last Spelling Stars testing day for 2016, many thanks to all the help-
ers who have helped out. Next Thursday and Friday mornings are not available for Reading
Christmas stories but Thursday7th & Friday the 8th of December will be available for anyone wish-
ing to help. This is a lovely Christmas activity
3/4’s— Firstly, well done to everyone that participated in the triathlon last Friday, especially Ma-
ya who managed to come home with a new bike! It may be nearing the end of the year, but
grade 3/4's are still as busy as ever. In reading, we have been continuing to ask critical thinking
questions before, during and after reading. In writing, we have begun establishing the purpose
of a newsletter, and the different forms news can be presented around the world. In Maths, we
have been fine tuning our addition strategies, and exploring place value.
5/6’s—This week grade 6's enjoyed a Public Speaking coaching session with Jennifer Chambers
in preparation for their talking stick speeches. As speeches are completed the grade 6 stu-
dents will start preparing mobile hutches for their chickens. Grade 5's are at the end of scrap
booking with completed scrapbooks due next Thursday. Applications for leadership position for
2017 will go out to grade 5's on Thursday. In Maths all students are working on order of opera-
tions (BODMAS). Well done to all students who have been applying themselves to testing.
Admin. News
We now also have a collection of lost property from the Triathlon—if you are missing anything, please
come to the office.
Student Banking—PFCS do offer this service through the Commonwealth Bank Dollarmites Program.
Enquire at the office if you are interested. Tuesday is our Banking day.
Literacy Tip:
This week’s tip is about useful computer programs or apps for devices that help reading. Like all computer
based learning children need timed “screen” time as it is very addictive!!! Just google and see what’s out
there and what you like and how much it costs. Here are a few to choose from:
Jolly Phonics
ABC Reading Eggs
Nessy Learning
Finance News
When making payments to the school please send them to the office in a sealed envelope or bag
clearly marked with the child’s name and reason for payment. Petty cash is not held at the office, there-
fore correct money is always greatly appreciated.
Our Year 2 Sleepover, Year 1 Dinner and Prep Afternoon Tea events are all on next week. Please
return your signed consent (and Medical for Year 2’s) with full payment by Friday.
Fundraising/Parents & Friends News
Xmas Trees— orders close on Monday 28th November.
We are still selling our Christmas raffle tickets in Sackville Street. Please speak to Jenni or Ronda if
you can help out.
Raffle Tickets went home to each family this week. Please contribute to the success of this school
fundraiser by selling your tickets, and return the butts by Monday 5th December.
Numeracy Tip:
Talk positively about maths with your child – even if you struggled with it at school yourself. Staying
positive about maths will help your child. Saying "I was bad at maths" can lower a child’s own ex-
pectations of themselves at maths and can give your child an excuse not to try.
Talk to your child about how you use maths in everyday life – while shopping, banking, budgeting,
cooking, driving, and keeping score in sports games, telling the time etc.
Help your child to see the real-life purpose for the maths they are learning at school e.g. when your
child is learning fractions you could ask them:
- “How many slices will I need to cut the pizza into so that everyone has two slices?”
- “What fraction of the glass is filled with water?”
- “Can you cut up the apple to make six equal pieces?”

Physical Education
Last Friday was a fantastic day for year 3-6 students participating in the School Triathlon Challenge at the Lake Pertobe precinct. PFCS had 45 participants, some completed the individual course (swim, ride, run), others did a leg of the team event and some did both!. How wonderful it was to see everyone giving it their best and cheering on their friends, teammates and other schools. The weather was cool to start but eventually the sun broke through for a perfect day, although the water never got any warmer! Our stu-dents conducted themselves admirably and everyone had lots of fun. This is a great event for students of all abilities to represent the school in a sporting event, with the goal to doing a personal best (no placings are awarded). Well done to you all and a huge thankyou again to those parents that assisted with the day and supported their children. I felt like I ran a marathon myself, running back and forth from each check-point taking photos! I have placed a display of these in the office area for everyone to enjoy.
