School Scene

Students enjoyed their travels to Quebec and Boston/New York

during May month. They had some wonderful learning experi-

ences and made many new memories of their year at St.

Paul’s

Retired teacher, Gerard Walsh captivated our grade nine

students with a presentation about the Holocaust.

Students and teachers recently enjoyed a fun hockey

game and our school team proved once again to be the

champions!

Thank You to Ms. Rowe for organizing the volunteer luncheon for our students and parents who helped with our breakfast pro-

gram and our lunch clean up crew. We are so fortunate to have these wonderful parents and student volunteers.

Congratulations to our grade 7’s and 9’s for their outstanding performance

at the Techni-Plex. They participated in the Ultimate NL Provincial Frisbee

Championships. Thank you to Ms. Webb for working with our athletes and

making this weekend possible.

Kudos to our several members of our leadership team who volunteered

their time at the Ronald McDonald House recently.

Thanks to Ms. Rowe, parent volunteers, teachers, and of

course, our local firefighters, for making year end “Great Big

Breakfast” a huge success!

School Scene Students in 7-4 proudly display the “Trading Cards” they created for their independent novel study in Language Arts. Great work students!

Students in 7-5 get a fun “hands on ”learning experience with rock families in science.

Congratulations to our boys baseball team on their tremendous performance in the ball tournament this past weekend. They won silver in the championship game against MPSH (4-3). Way to go boys!

Grade 9 School Leaving Carnival Reminder for families to get their grade 9 Carnival form signed and completed; please pass forms into your home-room teachers. Thank you to staff, families and community for working hard to ensure a great experience for our wonderful grade 9 students. A reminder, as well to parents of Grade 8’s who wish to volunteer at the carnival, please return the forms if you want to help. This is a great opportunity to volunteer at our school.

Please note that the cafeteria will have reduced services on Monday and Tuesday next week and it will not be open from Wednesday until school closes. Please note that the Breakfast club will remain open for exam week and will close up for Year as of Friday, June 16th.

Music Notes Excursion Around d’Bay - Jazz Band/Show Choir Road Trip On Monday, June 19-20, the Jazz Band and Show Choir will take their show on the road for our annual *Excursion Around d’Bay. The day will include a performances for our feeder schools as well as a performance in Coley’s Point. We will also hike through Salmonier Nature Park and overnight at the Lavrock Centre. .

Star Students

Congratulations to Spencer Hewitt, Tristan Paranavitana, and Jeffrey Hayward who participated in the 2017 Junior High School track and field championships as part of team St Paul's Junior High. Spencer won the gold medal in the 4 kg shot put. Spencer is also a member of the Provincial basketball team with NLBA and will be travelling to Nationals in Regina in July. We wish Spencer all the best!

Congratulations to the grade 9 girls on winning gold medal in the "Say Farewell to Junior High" volleyball tournament this weekend. Congratulations to Mya Gaul-ton on being selected as the player of the game in the Final. Thank you to Mr. Staubitzer for coaching this team.

Congratulations to Claire Bradley for being selected to represent St. Paul’s at the NLESD Public Speak-

ing Competition held at the District Conference Center on May 23. Thank you to Ms. Budgell and Ms.

Peddle for making this possible. Way to go Claire!

Congratulations to Mahiba Khan, Hailey Robichaud and Mme. Webb met with Dr. Naterer, the Dean of Engineering at MUN to celebrate their science fair accomplishments. Well done!

Congratulations to 4 of our own St. Paul’s students for their excellent perfor-mances at the Eastern Gymnastics Championships held in Sackville, NB, May 5-8, 2017. Morgan White, John Hiscock , Jayne Hynes, and Sara Pace.

Congratulations to Jessica Ryder and Emily Ricketts on being selected to participate in the 2017 Canada Games. Jessica and Emily will represent Newfoundland on the swim team at the Canada Games in Winnipeg, August 5-11.

Memo to Families

Dear Families, It is that time of year where students, families and staff are working very hard toward the completion of their final tests, exams and Provincial Assessments. To provide a successful year-end assessment experience the following is expected:

Monday, June 12th- Tuesday, June 13

-Regular school days. Review for year end work and completion of curriculum outcomes. Wednesday, June 14th – Friday, June 16

-Families must have their children at school no later than 8:45 for an 8:50 homeroom (required). -Grade 7-9 ELA, Math and Science starts at 9:00 am sharp. -All exams are from 9:00-11:30 with the exception of Science which is from 9:00-10:30. Please see schedule below. -Please come prepared with pens, pencils, eraser, calculator, geometry set, thesaurus/dictionaries. -Students must remain in the exam room for the entire time frame. -Reading material is encouraged for students who finish their exams/tests early. -Cafeteria Services: Last day is Tuesday, June 13th, with a reduced menu on Monday and Tuesday. -A study hall will be provided for all students after exams/tests. If you wish your child to return home to study, please contact your homeroom teacher. -Bus runs at regular time Monday, June 19th – Wednesday, June 21

- School open and closes at regular time. Planned activities will be scheduled for these days. Thursday, June 22 -Students are expected to be in school for homeroom period, no later than 8:50. -School ceremony will start at 9:00 am sharp, all students expected to be in attendance. Due to fire regula tions, our assembly is for students only. -Students must be present to receive report cards. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm. -Lost textbooks and library books: families will be charged replacement cost. Some of our books have a value of over $75.00. -Please check at home regarding school text books and library books. Please return as directed by class room teachers. -Year-end assessments will be offered in English Language Arts, Science and Mathematics.

Royal St. John’s Regatta Design Contest

Are you 10-13 years old? Do you LOVE Canada? Please join the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee as they celebrate Canada and its 150th birthday with a commemorative Regatta Day programme that we want YOU to design. Show us what Canada means to you and why you love it. Since it’s for the Royal St. John’s Regatta, please try to incorporate row-ing. Use any medium you’d like but, ensure your art is 8.5 x 11 (standard size). The winner will be selected by a committee of community representatives and once chosen, will be the cover and focal point of the 2017 Royal St. John’s Regatta souvenir programme.
