is aimed at keeping you up to date with works, services and activities in DIVISION 1 which takes in Mirriwinni, Bramston Beach, Babinda, Aloomba, Gordonvale, parts of Edmonton and East Trinity.

Works, Services & Activities started or completed in the last quarter

n Babinda Boulders improvement works completed (pictured above). Works include construction of an all-abilities access ramp into the main swimming hole, replacements of footbridges, viewing platform and balustrading at lookouts.

n Redevelopment of Petersen Park, involving new playing fields, clubhouse, amenities, lighting and car parking, has been completed.

n Undertook Babinda litter bin review, new bins installed in Munro Street

n Josephine Creek bridge renewal completed

n Shoulder sealed along Howard Kennedy Drive, Bartle Frere

n Shoulder sealed along George Street (from Muir to Moller St), Gordonvale

n Free movie night (Trolls) held at Robert Rossi Park, Aloomba (16 Sept)

n Seven Storytime sessions held at Babinda and Gordonvale Libraries

n Three TechKNOW introduction to iPads sessions held at Babinda Library

n Hosted business development workshops in Babinda and Gordonvale

n Delivery of flowmeter and pit installation at Babinda Waste water treatment plant

n Condition assessment of Babinda Wastewater Treatment Plant primary and secondary sedimentation tank and trickle filter

n Installed tourist directional signs for Bramston Beach at Mirriwinni

n Construction of Mt Peter Gravity Sewer main commenced

n Waste & Recycling Excursion conducted for Gordonvale High School (30 students)

CBD parking changesCouncil is making changes to parking in the hospital precinct and in the CBD to improve turnover of vehicles and make it easier for you to find a car park. The changes, which are due to come into effect from 1 January, are:n Creating more than 350 car parks in the hospital precinctn Introducing a better mix of short, medium and long-term parking options around the hospitalsn 20c per hour increase in parking feesn 15% increase in parking fines (subject to a Local Laws amendment)n Increased time-limited parking hours to 8.30am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday.

GET THE RIGHT INFORMATION THIS WET SEASONDo you want a quick way to find out all the latest disaster advice and information this wet season?The Cairns Disaster Dashboard is a single point of reference for information and advice during a disaster, providing information from Council, emergency services, utilities such as Ergon and Telstra, road status updates, and traffic and flood cams.During an emergency the dashboard will be updated in real time with things like road closures, power outages and notifications of any shelters that may be opened.Outside of activations, the website will have links to all Council resources to help residents prepare for natural disasters. It will include storm tide zones and evacuation routes, as well as material to help with making a Household Emergency Plan.The home page of the Disaster Dashboard also contains a link to register for the new Cairns Alert emergency messaging service. Cairns Alert will enable you to get advice during a disaster via your email, sms and voice message.Registering for Cairns Alert can be done by going to www.cairns.qld.gov.au/cairnsalert or through the Disaster Dashboard at disaster.qld.gov.au
