Key Question - This would be worth 6 marks….

1. Are the Government responsible for dealing with drug addiction? Should the Government help, or punish? What do you think? How would a Christian respond to this question?

The Government introduced the Welfare State in 1947 to cure the ills in our society, to care for the sick. Helping addicts, or people who are ill, falls into this category. Drug users are often victims of other factors, such as domestic abuse, stress and/or depression. Drugs are often a way out of dealing with a problem. If this problem can be dealt with, then drug addiction can be stopped. A Christian would argue that by helping the sick, you are helping Jesus himself. Helping someone in need is an act of love. You should not pass someone in need, as told by the story of the Good Samaritan.
