The twelfth annual All-Star SportsWeek once again returns to Huntsvillewith some great additions for ouradministrators and coaches. Severalbanquet opportunities will greet atten-dees this year. Learning ThroughSports will host a SportmanshipLuncheon on Wednesday for qualifiedschools and Coaches Outreach willsponsor a breakfast free of charge forattendees on Thursday morning.
For those seeking educationalopportunities, the National Center forSports Safety will offer the PREPARESport First Aid course free of charge forthose who preregister. The AlabamaState Department of Education willoffer a free School Bus RecertificationClinic on Tuesday for those interestedin recertification. Urology Centers ofAlabama will once again offer freeprostate screening for coaches onThursday.
As always, the Athletic Directors andPrincipals sessions will be very infor-mative and useful for both the newlyhired and the veteran. A session fornew principals and athletic directorswill be added this year along with a ses-sion on computer updates from theAHSAA. There will be several interactivesessions that will provide each of you
the opportunity to ask questions andshare ideas on various topics.
We will again offer leadership train-ing courses on Tuesday and Thursdayalong with our Certified AthleticAdministrator Exam (CAA) onThursday.
Our committees have securednationally recognized speakers for clin-ics in nine individual sports. Thisshould be one of our strongest clinicsto date. These clinics will provide aspecial opportunity for you to increaseyour knowledge and share ideas with
your peers.Our Expo will once again feature
numerous nation-wide vendors toallow you to see the latest in productsrelated to your sport.
As you can see, a lot will be going onthis summer. You deserve the best forwhat you do for the student athletes ofour state and we hope that you will joinus for these exciting events. AHSADCA OFFICERS
RULES CLINICS MANDATORY FOR HEAD COACHESAll head coaches must attend a rules clinic in their sports prior to thebeginning of their sports’ seasons. This mandatory clinic is required ofall head coaches in football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball,wrestling, track & field, and soccer. Coaches will not be required to takean exam but must register with a photo ID in order to record their atten-dance. A school will be fined $300 for each head coach that does notmeet this requirement. Coaches may attend one of the rules clinics atvarious state sites. The rules clinics are included in the activities of theAll-Star Sports Week and the schedule is provided at the right. You mustregister for coaching school to attend the rules clinics.
