OUR MISSION

To serve the Immokalee community by providing exceptional educational programs and the highest quality childcare.

Page 3: Immokalee Child Care Center - 2014-2015 Newsletter

When I joined Immokalee Child Care Center’s winning team over 16 years ago, I realized our agency’s success was built on dedication, hard work, creativity and visions for the future. This will continue as we move forward.

This year we have added cutting edge educational programs that support our current START Curriculum. (Science, Technology, Arts, Reading Together.) The creation of a Technology Library has allowed children to gain the necessary technological proficiencies to give them a “jump start” into Kindergarten. The introduction of technology helps to reinforce early literacy, math, cognitive and fine motor skills, as well as, develop language and socio-emotional awareness. Technology can also be used as a means to assist English language learners in their transition from their native language to English. The library includes; iPads, an interactive SMART Table and a SMART Board.

• FIT START is ICCC’s new preschool fitness and wellness program. Children exercise and learn about overall health, wellness, anatomy, nutrition and healthy food choices. This program will also help foster self-esteem and positive associations with exercise, healthy eating, as well as, prevent childhood obesity, diabetes, heart disease risk factors and other diseases.

ICCC also places a major concentration on family involvement, support and parent educational opportunities to improve the quality of life for our children. The positive impact of family involvement during a child’s formative years can make a difference in their on-going achievements.

In the State of Florida, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children must undergo mandated State assessments and testing in order to ascertain their developmental level. Many of these assessments are given in English. Unfortuanately, over 70 % of the children who attend Immokalee Child Care Center come from families who speak little or no English. These parents struggle to be involved in their children’s education and are often intimidated due to the lack of their knowledge of English. This has proven to put children at a disadvantage when they enter the public school system.

In order to support our families and improve the quality of their education, ICCC is the initial stages of implementing a comprehensive parent education program START RIGHT for families who do not speak English. The program will include; English as a second language, instruction for both Spanish and Creole speakers, computer literacy, family health and wellness, fiscal responsibility and positive parenting techniques.

We have come a long way since the old Washhouse. As time goes on and trends change, Immokalee Child Care Center will continue to be the fore-runner in our field as advocates and leaders for education. As we continue on with the next 50 years, Immokalee Child Care Center will focus not only on making a difference in the lives of our children, but their families and our community as a whole.

I truly am looking forward to it!

START PROGRAM (Science, technology, arts, reading together)START is designed to enhance the overall educational experiences of the children by incorporating science, technology, the arts and reading into the curriculum through hands on methods. The theory behind the program is to promote literacy and language through a dynamic, interactive curriculum that incorporates science, technology, art and the dramatic arts together around a literary theme.

Technology Library (START Program Phase 2) Technology is a key piece to the Immokalee Child Care Center’s interactive START Program. Funds generated through a “fund a need” auction at the 2014 Ditka-Hart Celebrity Golf Tournament, allowed Immokalee Child Care Center to create a Technology Library at the Center for use for both children and parents.

FIT START (START Program Phase 3)The FIT START preschool fitness and wellness curriculum is designed to incorporate preschool exercises and preschool fitness activities such as aerobics, dance, stretching, gymnastics, sports, gross motor skills and balance.

Immokalee Child Care Center thanks our generous community partners; their support is truly an honor.

Page 11: Immokalee Child Care Center - 2014-2015 Newsletter

As I step up to take the honor of becoming the President of the Board of Directors for Immokalee Child Care Center, I would like to thank Robert C. Stift for his hard work and dedication in holding this esteemed position for the past three years. Mr. Stift has been a true asset to our organization and will continue serving as a Director on the Board this next year.

In alignment with the Collier County Public Schools Strategic Plan, ICCC’s primary objective is to provide early childhood education to enhance school readiness for young children. We continue to improve and maintain this objective through our state of the art center and innovative programs.

• This year has seen many positive changes within our organization. Andrew Spaulding has been promoted to Center Director, which has enabled Valarie Bostic, Executive Director, to take on additional responsibilities. Bruce Barone, Jr. has also joined our team as the Director of Donor Re-lations & Marketing.

• While we said goodbye to long time Board Members, Laura Lee Rush & Callie Spillane, we have welcomed two new board members; Ginger Mur-dy, retired Director of the First Presbyterian Preschool in Naples and her husband, Bill Murdy, a retired contractor and active community member.

The Board thanks you for your continued financial support, without which we would not be able to provide the quality childcare and early learning services that have greatly changed the lives of families in our community.

I look forward to our 50th Anniversary Celebration December 4th. It promises to be a fun filled evening. I extend an invitation to you to be part of this significant milestone.
