Dear Immanuel Family,

Greetings in the name of our Lord.

With thanks and praise we enter to the sixth month of 2017. A we observe June 4 th as Pentecost

Sunday, let me share a few things in that connection. Pentecost was the second important festival

of the Jews (After Passover). It was the harvest festival when the first fruits of the grain harvest

were presented to God (Lev.23:17). The feast of Pentecost coincides with the Jewish feast of

Weeks, which occurs 50 days after the Passover (Deut.16:10). According to Jewish tradition, the

Ten Commandments were given to Moses 50 days after the first Passover. At the time of Jesus,

the festival focused on rabbinic law and traditions. In the celebration of Pentecost Sunday, in

addition to the old historical event ,we also meditate upon the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the

day of Pentecost. Pentecost is seen by many as leading to the birth and expansion of the Church.

The spirit of God is active not merely from the event recorded in Acts chapter 2 but has been ac-

tive from the beginning of creation. He was brooding upon the face of the waters before the crea-

tion (Gen.1:2). Human became a living being only after the sprit was breathed in to him/her. In

Old Testament, we see the Holy Spirit as creative, directive and empowering.

On the Pentecost after our Lord’s Resurrection, God sent His Holy Spirit to empower the Disciples

to take up the task of furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

May the empowering, Uniting and indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit be on us and all our

Christian endeavors.

May the spirit of Pentecost be on us all.

From the Associate Vicar's Desk

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

It gives me much pleasure to greet you all through this parish Newsletter. I thank God for

giving me the opportunity to serve Immanuel Mar Thoma Parish, Houston which is well

known for its missionary vision and outreach programs. I do appreciate the warmth and

affection you all rendered to me and my family so far. I gratefully remember our former

vicars and their services and acknowledge Rev. Johnson Uniithan’s support at the moment.

Let us join our hands together for a contemporary and meaningful Christian experience and

for the furtherance of the Kingdom.

In the month of June our church lectionary concentrates more on Holy Spirit and related

themes. We comprehend God (Trinitarian God) as three persons: God the Father (creator

God), God the Son (redeemer God), and God the Holy Spirit (sustainer God). The triune

God was there even before the creation (ref, creation account in Genesis). Therefore, Holy

Spirit is a person (not just a power came on the day of Pentecost for the first time.), exist-

ent from the very beginning, who lives with us and reinforces us to bear witness for the

Gospel. So, our mission is not to control the Holy Spirit (you may see the efforts for the

same are going on around us) but to be controlled by the Holy Spirit to lead a fruitful

Christian life based on the values of the Kingdom. Then we, together with our brethren,

will experience the foretaste of the Kingdom and the establishment of the same will be

fastened.

IMTC FAMILY RETREAT Sept 8th, 9th & 10th 2017

Immanuel Mar Thoma Church Retreat is scheduled for Friday Sep-tember 8th beginning at 5:00PM & ending on Sunday September 10th after Holy Communion,at Trinity Pines,a beautifull campus locat-ed just two hours north of Houston.It will be a good time for fellowship and enjoyments with the Immanuel families.
