IMPORTANT UPDATE – Immaculate Conception parish ONLY

We are working hard to keep everyone safe here at Immaculate Conception parish and we will continue to do so. In the process, we want to make sure that we are taking common sense measures toward this end in keeping with the health directives that we have been given by the Archdiocese of KCK and by our Pottawat-omie County health department. While the Archdiocese has offered a broad outline of current best practic-es to be kept in order to fight the spread COVID-19, it currently has asked us to follow the local county health department directives.

As such, having reviewed the current Pottawatomie County directives, we will NOT be requiring masks to be worn during the celebration of the Mass, whether weekday or weekend Masses, effective July 25th.

We do recommend you consider wearing a mask when coming forward to receive Holy Communion and when entering and exiting the Church.

From the July 22nd, 2020 Pottawatomie County Community update given by their Health Department:

“Our County Health Officer has also received numerous questions from individuals, organizations, and businesses about what they are “allowed” or “authorized” to do. Currently, Pottawatomie County does not have any Health Orders with restrictions, limitations, or prohibitions. HOWEVER, our County Health Department and Health Officer highly recommend that everyone follow industry standards. Certain activi-ties, such as attending mass gatherings, riding on public transportation, etc. are addressed by the CDC and/or KDHE on their websites. Mitigation techniques are strongly encouraged at all times; this includes but is not limited to hand washing; sanitizing frequently touched surfaces (such as cell phones and other touchscreen devices); and maintaining social distancing, or wearing a mask when you cannot maintain social distancing.”

Please notice that we are simply following our current local health department directives in not requiring the use of masks at Mass. We will still be blocking off every other pew to create social distance, sanitizing the pews, and taking all reasonable, best practice measures to mitigate the spread of the virus. If you feel it is best to wear a mask, it is completely acceptable to continue doing so. Please continue to take common sense measures suggested by experts in this regard.

Check out this link for a video invitation-https://youtu.be/3k6mfS27afg *************************************** Pastor’s Corner:

I think one of my most important roles as a priest is to be a “bridge” by which you can draw closer to God, closer to his Church, and closer to the Sacraments, the source of grace for all of us, which enables us to become the men and women God created us to be – Saints! My goal is to do this while keeping you safe, but I also want you to know that I will do my best to remove every obstacle which might prevent you from drawing close to Our Lord Jesus Christ. Part of this effort is offering expanded daily Mass and Confession times for our two parishes (see the new times!) and I really hope this makes the Sacraments more accessi-ble for you and your families. We will also be offering adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the church on Fridays. Please drop in before work, after work, dur-ing lunch break, even if only for 5 minutes. This is a wonderful opportunity to speak to God face-to-face and allow His love and peace to transform your heart. Bring the whole family if you can! My dear family, I want you to know how much we all need God, espe-cially during these challenging times. We need God to fight the fear, doubt, discouragement, and isolation that the devil would have us give into. We especially need to receive the Body and Blood of Christ, our essential food for the journey. I really hope that if you are in good health and if you aren’t currently caring for someone who’s health is compromised, you will make every effort to come to Sunday Mass. Let no obstacle or excuse prevent us from living our Faith and putting God right where he belongs – 1st place.
