BAPTISMS Presenting a child for Baptism is a serious obligation and requires a
faith commitment on the part of the parents and godparents. This
commitment is exemplified by being a practicing, active Catholic.
Parents are obligated to attend a preparation session before a child’s
baptism if they have not attended one in the past five years.
Sessions are held at 12:15 p.m. on second Sundays of January,
March, May, July, September and November, in the Parish Activity
Center. Please call the Parish Office to register. Baptism is at 12:15
p.m. on the third Sunday of each month except in March it will be
on the second Sunday.
WEDDINGS Please phone the parish office to set-up an appointment with a
priest, in order to begin the sacramental preparation. Only after this
initial meeting and assessment can a date be set for the wedding.
The process requires at least 6 months.
NEW PARISHIONERS ARE WELCOME Please come to the parish office to register. If you have a change of
address, phone number or email, please inform the parish office.

EPIPHANY OF THE LORD, JANUARY 3, 2021
Dear Celina Cluster Parishioner,
Unfortunately, I (Fr. Ken) have torn tendons
in my shoulder that require surgery. There was no
incident that I can recall. The surgeon says probably
just wear and tear over the years and age. He said it
was common among folks my age. I am scheduled to
have outpatient surgery January 7th. The surgeon
said my arm will be immobilized in a sling for 6
weeks and rather limited celebrating sacraments.
We are fortunate to have a recently retired pastor,
Fr. Mark Miller, C.PP.S. from the Kansas City
Province, who is able to serve the Celina Cluster in
my absence. He will be staying with us January 7th
to February 19th. Fr. Mark originally hails from
Trinity, IN, just across the state line. I am hopeful
that after a few weeks I will be able to resume
administrative duties on a limited basis. I welcome
your prayers.
Blessings and thanks,
Fr. Ken

Gospel Meditation
The Epiphany of the Lord
“Where is that thing?” mumbled Bob as he
searched frantically on his dimly lit desk for the
current electric bill. “I know I put it right on top of
these papers this morning!” Growing in frustration
and bordering on anger, he flies stuff around, moves
books and opines why simple tasks need to be so
hard. Enter his wife, who calmly says, “Maybe it
would help if you put the light on, dear.” The desk
light goes on and lo and behold, there is the electric
bill right where Bob left it earlier. All it took was a
little light!
We stubbornly refuse to turn on the lights!
Either we are distracted, determined, disinterested,
preoccupied, stubborn, apprehensive, or all of the
above. Or perhaps, we fail to do the obvious. We
would rather live our lives with the dimmest of lights
or even in total darkness. Why are we afraid to do
something so that we can actually see? It might help
us to find quicker and better answers to problems,
the meaning of life, relationships, happiness, and
what is ultimate truth. Yet, we stumble along,
moving things from one side to the other, getting
angry, feeling cheated, being unsettled, resigning
ourselves to the agony of defeat once again.
“And behold, the star that they had seen at its
rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over
the place where the child was.” The light has come
into the world in the person of Jesus Christ! We no
longer have to fumble in the darkness. We have been
gifted with the illumination we need to see our way
through things and find what we really are looking
for. All these years later, however, so many are still
reluctant to accept him. Perhaps they are
unconvinced, disinterested, preoccupied, stubborn,
apprehensive, or all of the above. Everyone has their
own reason for not wanting to turn on the switch.
But there are so many answers to so many of
our problems in this humble Child of Nazareth. A
simple birth teaches us about God’s tender wedded
relationship with humanity. It speaks to the expanse
of God’s salvation across the globe, and the incarnate
Divine wonders and blessings that are a part of our
life moment to moment. It calls us to understand the
design of world order God intended as found in the
Beatitudes, the sacredness of every human life and
all of creation and the meaning of things we struggle
with most, like suffering and death. We have a lot of
Good News to share, not just with a privileged few
but with all the world. All races and creeds can
receive God’s healing word. God continues to
manifest himself even now! Use the light to find
what you are really looking for!

Poinsettias
Christmas decorations will come down
immediately following the 11:00 a.m. mass on
Sunday, January 10. All poinsettias will be available
for the taking. Please come to the front of church
after mass, and pick up a plant or two. Please remove the gold foil or white basket--these items must stay at church for reuse. We have plastic
sleeves available to wrap the plant for protection
against the cold air while carrying to and from your
car. Thank you!
Rosaries as Decorations
Question: I’ve seen people hang rosaries over the
rear-view mirrors in their cars and a few of them
wear them around their necks. Is it OK to do that? Answer: The practice of hanging a rosary or a
religious medal off of the rearview mirror of one’s car
is a fairly popular custom across many cultures.
While there is no particular rule approving or
condemning this practice, we should also be mindful
of the respect and reverence due to religious objects
and devotional items (i.e. sacramentals).
An important point to consider would be the
reason why one chooses to place a rosary or religious
medal in our cars. Is it a reminder of the protection
and intercession of Mary and the saints? Does it
encourage us to be mindful of God’s presence, even in
such a mundane task as driving? Is it an outward
expression of our more private devotions?
One advantage of having a rosary or religious
medal in our cars is that it can also serve as a
reminder to pray when we travel, asking for
protection for ourselves and for other motorists or
commuters. Certainly, invoking the protection and
prayers of the saints is a wonderful practice for
families, helping to reinforce our belief in the
communion of saints and the care and concern we
owe to one another.
