(Juan 12:21) ¿Estamos dispuestos a ver a Jesús?
P. Joachim Lepcha
We would like to see Jesus and share his glory I have observed our parishioners this month, and,
in my opinion, they have taken this Lenten journey more seriously than past years. I could see many parishioners are participating daily in the Holy Mass, in both English and Spanish speaking. This month, 60% of our parishioners are happily joining in Weekend Masses. It is my outmost joy to see my parishioners even participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation every Saturday afternoon in great numbers. Every Friday evening, we have one hour adoration of the Blessed Sacrament before the Holy Mass, this also draws a big congregation to adore the Lord during this challenging time; to spend some quality time with Him praying for family, community, and for our nation.
Looking back at the one year of COVID 19, our
parishioners did not give up on Jesus. Instead, with firm faith, trust, and hope, our parishioners supported the parish in our financial crises. We survived this great crises of time with prayer and above all, with faith, hope and charity. We survived because we have many generous financial supporters in our parish who faithfully stood behind their Church community. We have a great Parish liturgical team with dedicated liturgical ministers who showed a great love for the Eucharist and for the community. They tirelessly kept our parish safe and healthy by implementing the mandates instructed by the Archdiocese to prevent any kind of infection of COVID. During this past COVID year, we never stopped celebrating the Holy Mass; we managed to celebrate the Holy Mass even in bad weather. Yes, all being said, our journey of faith does not end here; though the Lenten season is reaching its end we keep in mind that our sufferings, sacrifice, penance, and prayer has got a greater value because we imitate our master Jesus, and we are willing to see Jesus and participate in His passion.
This fifth Sunday of Lent brings the same question as in
the Gospel of John; the people came to Phillip and requested that they would like to see Jesus. (John 12:21) Are we willing to see to Jesus? To see Jesus means to wish to share in His hour of glory, to prepare to die to our desires to save our sinful life. Jesus asks to become the grain of wheat that falls into the ground and bears much fruit. (John 12:24)
Let us look at our Savior Lord Jesus. This Gospel of (John
12:20-33) shows how majestic Jesus is in his intense inner struggle maintaining with prayer, silent tears of conviction and total obedience to his father as he comes closer to suffering and death. How blind his surrender to His father’s will and his love for Him! Now He could see the clear picture of the heavy Cross, which he has to carry and be crucified on. The hour of the Son of Man is the Hour of the Cross, absolute love, obedient even unto death. He says, “The hour comes for the Son of Man to be glorified.” “Father, the hour has come, glorify your son that the son may glorify you.” (John 17:1) It means, he also wants to glorify his father by accepting the cross. By humbling himself, being obedient to death on the Cross, God highly exalted him. (Phil. 2:9-11.) If God has given us a Cross to carry and suffering to bear, humiliation to sting, then like Jesus, we accept it to glorify Him. God will also exalt us.
The Cross reveals God’s supreme love for us and for the
World. (John 3:6) while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. (Rom. 5:8) All we can do during this Lent is to repent, believe in the Lord and carry our Cross with his.

Did you know? Revisit screen time recommendations Parents everywhere are struggling to be parents, teachers, and friends for their children in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, many are likely and understandably relying on screens to help them through these seemingly endless days. Many children are also online for school, which only increases their screen exposure. The American Pediatric Association warns parents that too much screen time can lead to sleep problems, lower grades, mood and weight problems, and can keep children from learning how to relax and have fun without a screen present. Try to make time for reading, playing games, and other screen-free activities that will help break the cycle of screen addiction and talk to your children’s teachers about how screen time for school can be managed.
