IMLAC June – September 2017
President’s Message
Welcome to the return of warm woolies, coats and yes umbrellas; not sure I am ready yet.
Also welcome to the June to September IMLAC Newsletter.
Barbara kind enough to open up her home again for a Saturday lunch and as numbers limited please respond early.
We have a couple of new venues for Wednesday brunch (Federici at Her Majesty’s Theatre & Rubber Duck Cafe in Clifton Hill), as well as two lovely regional lunch venues (Victoria Hotel, Woodend, and the Coach & Horses Inn at Clarkefield - both with welcoming open fire places). There's also a suburban lunch at Brighton, and dinner at The Bank on Collins (as well as our regular pub lunch venues at the Imperial & the Pumphouse). Sounds great, so sincere thanks to you all, as without our hosts there would be no newsletter.
Also new is a free Organ Recital at St Michael’s Church followed by either coffee or light lunch, everyone welcome. Don’t forget Afternoon with Maya - plenty of lovely cakes to choose from.
I would like to thank Michele for attending a website training course run by LACVI, as keeping our website up to date is one of the keys to attracting new members.
Remember to book for our AGM, which will be held on 24th September 2017.
To all our members planning travels keep safe and enjoy.
Cheers and best wishes to all.. Sue Sue Sue Sue VVVV

Committee at a later date.

Activities where the venue says “Meet at Flinders St Station” ...
For those of you who haven’t yet met there at the start of an IMLAC activity, we meet at the tables and benches just to the right of “Coffee HQ” (pictured right) - as you are facing it. This is within the Myki “touched on” area, so make sure you bring your Myki Card with you. If you don’t know the host, simply ask the contact person whether they have a mobile number and, if so, you can give them a call when you arrive.
ARE YOU WILLING TO HOST AN EVENT DURING OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER and/or JANUARY?
If so, I’d love to hear from you!!!If so, I’d love to hear from you!!!If so, I’d love to hear from you!!!If so, I’d love to hear from you!!!
Think galleries, gardens, live entertainment, etc
Perhaps you and a friend would like to co-host an activity ...
... I’ll be happy to discuss how easy it can be! Sue V
Play It Again ... 17th September
(Don't miss this opportunity to see "Force of Destiny") Sue V. has very generously opened her home for this activity. What a great way to spend a delightful Sunday afternoon! Watching a “cinema gem” that received the following review from David Stratton:
"A moving and compassionate exploration of the human condition. One of Paul Cox's most personal and emotional films. David Wenham gives an exceptional performance"
As there’s a limit of 12 for this activity, please book early! Also, please note that this is a “members only” activity. The venue is centrally situated near the corner of LaTrobe and Spring Streets, and Sue will give details of the specific
address, transport options, etc when you book. Sue will provide tea & coffee, and you are welcome to “bring a plate” (or equivalent).
DRINKS & A CHAT
Come along for a drink and a chat once a month (usually on the 2nd Monday of each month, unless that day is a public holiday) at the Jarrah Bar in Quay West, Southbank. Enter Southbank from St Kilda Rd on the right side of the Hamer Hall and on the upper promenade. The Bar is immediately behind the Hamer Hall in Quay West. You can enter from just outside the Southgate shops, near the umbrellas on the left. Happy Hour drinks are $4.50 for house wine, sparkling wine or beer from 5.30-6.30 pm. Tapas are available.
NO NEED TO BOOK – however, if you would like more details telephone Carolyn
MONDAY MOVIES WITH KAY
Join Kay & other members on Monday afternoons for a movie at the Nova, the Kino or Melbourne Central. Very modest prices & budget food available. (Some Mondays may need to be cancelled) Phone Kay before 10 am on the day to confirm the venue,
movie and time.

On being a good guest ... When there is a large group dining together, the organising host usually has the job of collecting what individuals owe for their meals and drinks, and then paying the restauranteur.
In the past, there have been reports of hosts having to make up shortfalls, or search for change – and that has been very unfair.
It’s easy to forget that coffee or extra drink, and one suggestion has been for hosts to give their guests slips of paper and ask them to make a note of what they order - as they order it.
Also, it really important that you BRING SMALL DENOMINATION NOTES AND CHANGE
so that you can easily give the host the correct money.
(Although we’ve been requesting this for ages, some people still turn up with $50 notes)
Please – make sure that YOU are a good guest!
MORNING TEA at “YOUNG and JACKSON”
on ONE SATURDAY EACH MONTH @ 10.00 am
‘Young and Jackson’ (on the corner of Swanston & Flinders Sts) is so central that most people know where it is. The food is surprisingly modest in price, especially their
yummy Muffins. Their Morning Tea menu includes specials
Check the Calendar for dates. Carolyn

CHECKING DETAILS FOR CLUB ACTIVITIES
When Organisers give a ‘Phone by’ date it is crucial to phone BY THE DUE DATE. When leaving a message, always leave contact details. Please speak slowly. If members don’t phone the organiser, the event may be cancelled. Also because events on the calendar are organised months ahead, sometimes venues or other event details change. If you just turn up, you may find no members &/or no event.
PLEASE, DO NOT PHONE AFTER THE BOOKING DEADLINE, PARTICULARLY FOR EVENTS WHERE THE HOST HAS TO BOOK SEATS SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT
