IMEA District Honor Band Auditions Attached to this sheet is the audition times and accompanying information for the IMEA District 7 Honor Band Auditions on October 3. The auditions are at Lundahl Middle School (560 Nash Road, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.). Students should arrive at Lundahl MS at least 30 - 40 minutes before their audition to allow adequate time to warm up. I’ll be there to lend my guidance, support, and warmth of personality starting somewhere around 7:30. Students may leave their coats and instrument cases in the gym. The gym will also be used as a warm-up room. Students should report to their audition room 15 minutes before their scheduled time. The judge may ask you to go early if the person before you is not there. Directions: I’ve attached Mapquest directions. They look okay. I’ll probably take Milwaukee up to 22 and cut over. There’s not good way to get there, you pretty much drive north and west until you feel like you’re going to fall off the face of the earth. Dress nicely. This is not a blind audition. Give a good first impression. The district has paid a $7.00 audition fee for your participation in this event. All instruments are scheduled to audition in two rooms (one for scales, the other for the pieces). Make sure you perform in both rooms. I should have the results for you within the first couple of days following the audition. There almost 500 students auditioning from 45 different schools, and I’m sure McCracken will be represented well. Good luck. Practice hard. Let me know if you have any questions.

Keep these things in mind when you audition • Do not over-warm-up. It makes no sense to practice when you are in the gym. It’s too late! Besides...you

want your best performance to be in the audition room...not the warm-up room • USE YOUR OWN MUSIC. A clean set of the music may be on the stand in the audition room. Your music

has your important markings • The judge may stop you in the middle of a selection. This does not mean that you are performing poorly.

There are a lot of auditioning students and judges will only listen to what they need to in order to make their decision.

• Be grateful to anyone who compliments your playing after the audition (NO MOPEING!!!!). This includes the judge, your friends, your parents, total strangers, and especially me.
