IMC PHASE III SPACE PROPOSAL

INTRODUCTION

The IMC Moreno Valley has outgrown its present space and as a result the IMC is limited with the number of services it can successfully provide to the Moreno Valley Campus. Some of the rooms detailed in this proposal have specific individual needs like: Separate Climate Control, Back-up Power – UPS or Generator, Independent Alarm Control, Independent Building Access, Specific Network Configuration, and Sufficient AC Load for specified locations. Specifications are detailed on each room sheet.

JUSTIFICATION

The spaces that are currently needed in the IMC are:

Video Conferencing Rooms

The use of video conferencing technology in the district has grown over the past few years. Presently there is no dedicated Video Conferencing Room available on the Moreno Valley Campus. All meeting rooms are on a first come first served basis making scheduling of video conferences very difficult. Having dedicated video conferencing space would easy the scheduling process.

Convergence Center

Presently no designated space is available for faculty and staff to have access to presentation technology. The Convergence Center will be a place set aside for access to Digital Photography, Digital Video Editing Workstations, Converting Analog Materials to Digital, Photo Editing, Color Printing and Scanning. Workstations would also be available for creating dazzling PowerPoint Presentations.

Server Room

Servers play a huge role in supporting the Academic needs in resource access. Streaming Videos can be stored on a server making local access faster. Streaming videos can be downloaded from the Riverside Server overnight for access in the morning to classroom at Moreno Valley Campus. KRCC can air programs off a server and can utilize remote access technology, making trouble shooting easier during off hours reducing the amount a time KRCC is off air should a technical problem occur.

Tech Support Office

Presently growth space does not exist in the IMC. The IMC is already in need of additional support staff. Should new staff come on board today…we have no place to put them. We have no place for a technician to sit and troubleshoot media equipment or handle daily tasks of supporting the day-to-day operation of the IMC.

EDITING ROOM

Presently an editing workstation shares the same space with KRCC and equipment storage. If equipment is need for delivery and a technician is working on the editing workstation, the person working on the workstation would have to get up move his chair so the equipment can be rolled out of the room. This is not a good working environment for editing.

AV DELIVERY OFFICEIn order for an IMC technician to pre-stage an AV request for delivery, the tech would have to stage the equipment in the office where the phones are answered and guests come asking for assistance. There is no place available for a technician to sit to review the request and prepare his pull sheet for equipment needed for a set-up.

CHECK-IN

The area is needed for technician to stage equipment that is going out on deliveries. This same area can be used to check-in equipment that returning from a delivery or will-call return. Check-in is also used for when new equipment is delivered so it can be sorted and inventoried.

CLOSING COMMENTS:

The spaces listed in this proposal not only benefit the IMC, they also benefit the entire Moreno Valley Campus. By having additional space allows the IMC to better serve the Moreno Valley Campus and creates a better environment for planning and meeting the needs of a rapidly growing campus community. Note: The space currently occupied by the IMC will revert back to the Library and will be used as a word processing lab and other important library functionalities.
