We have more hours of daylight, and spring time seems to be upon us. Spring is a busy season around the district. Be sure to check our district website to get details on all the events taking place each week. In the last few weeks, discussion around the State School Fund has gathered more momentum. Before the transition in the Governor’s office, former Gov. Kitzhaber announced the state’s education budget as $6.9 billion, very short of what is needed to fulfill the requirements of the many initiatives he has put forward over the last few years as part of his 40-40-20 plan for Oregon. The co-chairs of Oregon’s Ways and Means Committee unveiled their proposed education budget of $7.235 billion. While this number is an improvement, it is still not realistic. If Oregon moves forward with an education budget of $7.235 billion, most schools will see less dollars per student in the 2015-16 school year. Out of 198 Oregon school districts, only 9 will see an increase in the number of dollars per student their districts will receive in the 2015- 16 school year. For Imbler, a State School education budget of $7.235 billion means $77 per student less. Oregon has several new education initiatives designed to increase student opportunities and success. While these programs are important for our students, there is a cost associated with each initiative that is in addition to our standard operating costs. I have heard some folks say that this proposed education budget for the 2015-17 biennium is 8% more money than the last biennium. However, there are more students attending Oregon schools statewide leaving less dollars per student and more requirements to satisfy with less funding. Education is crucial for our students. The K-12 education budget is an investment in the future of Oregon. Unless the Legislature adopts a budget of $7.5 billion or more, the future of Oregon’s students does not look quite as bright as it could. What can you do to help in regards to Oregon’s education budget? Let your Representative know that adequate funding is important for our schools. Ask them to promote an education budget that does not ask Oregon schools to do more with less, a trend that has become the norm over the last 10-12 years. If we hope to educate Oregon students to help them be competitive in a global marketplace, we have got to equip schools with the funds and resources needed to turn those hopes into viable realities for our students.

FBLA NEWS CLICK TO ORDER YOUR YEARBOOKBy Hailey Bingaman Publicity Director

Hello friends and members of FBLA March has been a busy month for all of us as we prepare for the State Business Leadership Conference but there are more upcoming events to announce First letrsquos take a look at what has been accomplished as there have been several new developments since our last announcement

Hello friends and members of FBLA March has been a busy month for all of us as we prepare for the State Business Leadership Conference but there are more upcoming events to announce First letrsquos take a look at what has been accomplished as there have been several new developments since our last announcement

Since the beginning of the month we have held many fundraisers for those attending the state conference in April The chapter also helped complete many projects in hopes of achieving the outstanding FBLA chapter award Those lucky members who placed in the top ten of their competitive events at the regional competition will get the opportunity to attend the state conference from April 8-11 On March 11th and 12th members were able to complete their homesite testing prior to the conference On April 4th our FBLA chapter will once again have our annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10 am

On March 13th the American Enterprise project took place and was a great success The project taught key business and entrepreneurial skills to our local fifth graders by conducting lessons once a week Our key members Kelley Massingale Gavin and December Eddy and Emily Faulk took the lead on this project to ensure its success The fifth grade class got the chance to have their own marketing day at the completion of the lessons where they were able to show off all their

newly acquired business skills Also in March members participated in our Miss IHS pageant and soup dinner This fundraiser gave those members attending the state conference an opportunity to raise money for their trip Our chapter would like to thank Kim Short and all of the kitchen staff for their
