IMAS EOD Level 3+ Course Factsheet.
Who is this course for?
The aim of the course is to instruct students,
who are already Level 3 (IMAS) certified, to
the required levels of knowledge, skills and
attitude necessary to perform the duties &
tasks (during EOD Operations) of a qualified
IMAS Level 3+ EOD Operator in humanitarian
mine action. The levels of competency
training will meet IMAS 09.30; Explosive
Ordnance Disposal Level 3+ Criteria. Students will have the opportunity to gain an
IMAS Level 3+ qualification, depending on the level of competency displayed by
the student during assessment and training. The course will focus on management
and planning of demining operations, demolitions and explosive storage. In
addition, the disposal of depleted Uranium, air dropped and guided weapon fusing
and disposal techniques will be taught. Students will be required to produce
technical reports as part of any practical or theoretical training. The level of
competency training exceeds IMAS Level 3+ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)
qualification, applicants must be in procession of an IMAS EOD Level 3 Certificate
or equivalent to attend this course.

MAT Kosovo is situated in Peja in the west
of Kosovo at the base of the Rugova Valley
surrounded by picturesque mountainous
views. Peja is the third largest city of Kosovo

few minutes’ walk sees you in the city
Centre, with modern shops, super markets,
chemists and many restaurants; it is the
perfect place to spend your down time and relax. The locals are friendly and

the breathtaking surroundings.
IMAS EOD Level 3+ Course Outcomes:
On successful completion of the course, you will have acquired the requisite
knowledge, skills & attitude necessary to perform IMAS EOD operations as a level
3+ Technical Field Manager (TFM).
Included in Core Syllabus:
1. IMAS & TNMA: Revision and refresher to the framework
of IMAS & TNMAs, Navigation and extraction of
information from the standards. Introduction to SOP
accreditation procedures & use of IMSMA data base.
2. DETECTION: Revision on Mine-Detector variants, Bomb
Locators and Large-loop operators training syllabus.
3. LAND SERVICE AMMUNITION: Revision on the generic aids to
identification, fuse types, fuse arming and functioning actions. Generic and
detailed recognition of Projectiles, Mortars, Rockets, Grenades and Mines,
including white phosphorous and depleted uranium munitions. Generic methods
of disposal and render safe procedures.
4. AIR DROPPED WEAPONS: Generic methods of disposal and render safe
procedures including use of thermite disposal, rocket wrench and de-armor.
5. GUIDED WEAPONS: GWs
classification, component parts recognition
& associated safety precautions. GWs role &
category detailed identification,
reconnaissance and disposal procedures.
6. DEPLETED URANIUM (DU) & WHITE PHOSHOROUS (WP): Introduction
and revision of DU & WP related hazards and disposal techniques.
7. SMALL ARMS & LIGHT WEAPONS: Introduction to SALW, Weapon and
Munitions ID, SALW Destruction Methods, Demonstration of the Ward method of
DDR processes.
8. CLUSTER MUNITION: Disposal techniques used for sub munitions that
have failed to function and are intact, including cluster munition unit (CBU)
clearance exercises.
9. IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE
DISPOSAL: IED disruption techniques (blow
in place (BIP) and pulling techniques)
practical IED training exercises.
10. LANDMINES & BOOBY TRAPS:
Introduction to specific mines and booby
traps found in the Middle east (Iraq,
Afghanistan, Syria and former Russian bloc
nations). Methods of operation, render safe
procedures, practical booby trap setting
and clearance training exercises.
11. MANAGEMENT OF OBOD OPERATION: Criteria for selection of disposal
sites, disposal Site layout. Management and accreditation of a central demolition
sites, Practical demolition site selection exercise. Demolition range SOP’s and
compiling a demolition order and destruction program. Demolition range serials
conducting low order techniques on live ordnance.
12. STORAGE, TRANSPORTATION AND HANDLING OF EXPLOSIVES:
Legislation and regulations for the storage and transportation of explosives.
Hazardous materials signage for transportation of explosives and Audit of an
Explosives Storage facility. Revision exercises.
13. MOVEMENT OF EXPLOSIVE
ORDNANCE: Movement of explosive
ordnance, including Hook and line pulling
equipment and pulling techniques, Bomb
lifting and recovery equipment and
techniques.
14. EOD 3 + TASK MANAGEMENT:
Practical EOD 3 + task management training exercises.
15. EOD PROJECT MANAGEMENT: EOD SOP reviewing and writing. Technical
input for project proposals. Compiling technical training programs, Intro to EOD
project work-plans and progress reporting.

To be eligible for a course certificate you must pass both theory and
practical Assessment in:
• Basic UXO recognition & identification tests
• Single item disposal techniques assessment (IMAS Level 2 EOD Standard)
• Demolition initiation set fault finding test
• Excavation and pulling procedures as an individual and member of a team
Courses offered at MAT Kosovo include:
• Field Operator IMAS EOD Levels 1 & 2 Course. No pre-requisites for attendance.
• IMAS EOD Level 3 Course. Must hold an IMAS EOD Level 2 certificate to attend.
• IMAS EOD Level 3+ Course. Must have been employed at IMAS EOD Level 3 prior to
application and each application is individually assessed prior to acceptance on the course.
• Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Risk Management course. Includes
Introductory, Intermediate & Advanced - no pre-requisites for attendance.
• Humanitarian IED Clearance (HIEDC) Course. Must be IMAS EOD Level 3 qualified.
