Take an excursion to Kenrokuen Garden and visit Shima House, a preserved teahouse which has been converted into a Geisha museum or Nomura house, a samurai residence. Travel to Hiroshima and visit the Peace Memorial Museum, and see the sobering cenotaph inscribed

with all the known victims of the Hiroshima bomb. In the afternoon, explore Hiroshima independently. Travel by train to Himeji and visit the 17th century Himeji Castle before continuing to Kyoto. Enjoy free time in the afternoon to explore Kyoto at your own pace.

Visit one of Kyoto’s most impressive shrines – Fushimi Inari Shrine and walk through the thousands of coloured ‘torii’ which stretch along a mountain path. Sample some sake before continuing to the Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji) to experience an authentic tea ceremony at the famous rock garden temple of Ryoan-ji.
