With its booming megacities and the urgent need to improve air quality in spite of increa-sing car sales, alternative drive systems play an important role for the Chinese automotive industry. The Chinese government already subsidizes the purchase of those New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) and public transport is mainly equipped with them.

China has already replaced the USA as the lar-gest market for NEVs in the world. The number of NEV sales already reached half a million in 2016 and according to Miao Wie, Minister of In-dustry and Information Technology, figures are expected to top the two million mark by 2020.

With the central topics of „alternative drive systems“, „autonomous driving“ and „connec-ted cars“ Auto Shanghai is the perfect platform for companies to present their latest develop-ments and prototypes in these sectors to the Chinese market.

„This was our first participation in Auto Shanghai. We wanted to first get an overview of the Chinese mar-ket.“ says Rene de Vries, Founder and Sales Director of Aito BV. The Dutch company was showcasing a haptic touch technology for user interfaces at the newly orga-nized forum. „The forum was strategically positioned between all Tier-1 suppliers. Chinese companies are very interested in new technologies. We will definitely be back,“ de Vries adds.
