Viral disease

• Caused by minute living?? Viruses

• They work by injecting their own DNA into your cells DNA

• Your cell then produces viruses

• Cannot be killed with antibiotics, white blood cells are the only hope

• Rabies, ebola, colds

Parasitic• Caused by a variety of

small organisms like amoeba, roundworms,fungi etc.

• Antibiotics may kill these

• Humans sometimes accidental host

• Sleeping sickness, dysentery

Hereditary disease

• Genetic disease inherited from parents

• New forms of gene therapy and genetic engineering are helping

• Down syndrome, md

Cancer

• May be inherited or caused by a virus

• Cells that are dividing uncontrollably and crowding out normal cells

• If they break off and spread throughout the body, it is called malignant.

• Chemotherapy kills all dividing cells

Autoimmune diseases

• Immune system attacks own body-reasons unknown

• Examples• MS-myelin destroyed

• Myasthenia gravis-enzyme that breaks down Ach is destroyed

• Lou Gehrig’s disease-motor nerves destroyed
