Sketchbook EntriesDoodles
This is our first sketchbook entry, where we
were suppose to draw two pages of doodles.
I found this slight difficult at first, for me
because, I could not get myself to just let go.
Finally, I let my mind just sketch what I had
been thinking about drawing, whether it was
designs that just floated around in my head or
designs people had asked me to create for
them for tattoos. Overall, I am proud of the
outcome and found this to be a great
beginning exercise for us to let loose, and just
have fun.
The medium I used for this exercise was ink.

This is another sketchbook entry where we replaced five ads with something dealing with
illustration. Overall, I thought of shapes of objects of which I could replace the ads with.
For the first ad, I replaced one of the V8 bottles with a Babushka doll. This one is my favorite out of the bunch.
The second, under the V8 ad, is a yogurt ad. I replaced the yogurt with a test tube where a chemical reaction is occurring and bubbling over.
The third is a deodorant ad. Here I replaced the product with a Hawaiian tiki.
The fourth one is more literal since I was dealing with watches. I added faces to the watches while having them do the hear, speak, and see no evil expressions.
The fifth and final ad is for Nintendo 3DS. I made it literal as well. Since “DS” stands for double screen, I multiplied the screens by three to make it six on top.

Sketchbook EntriesI See the Light
This is a basic lighting exercise, but I still like the outcome of it. I
chose this item because, I liked the style and the full shape of it. It was
elegant and proud, and the different lighting angles made it look
interesting.
The media I chose for this exercise were; graphite for the overall
shading and look, as well as carbon pencil to define darker areas.

Module 2 – Avatar ProjectProcess Work
These are the process works for our Avatar Project. Out of all our thumbnails, I kept
going back to this particular thumbnail because it was in an art nouveau style, which I
love to draw. In the rough, I decided to make the body rotate to give a more interesting
view instead of a straight profile. I also realized that it is a boy, when I should have
Reflected myself. In the composition, I changed it so it looked more like myself in the face
and hair, and the result was much better. The outfit I chose for this was that of the
Ghostbusters look since that’s what I thought about when I heard the announcement of
our group name. The one thing I am most proud of is the weapon of choice, an ink pen.

Module 2 – Avatar ProjectFinal
This is the final of our Avatar project. I am proud of how this
looked. I have always enjoyed the divided effect with using the
different techniques of shading. The reasoning for the choices
of the background are; I wanted a logo, much like that of the
Ghostbusters, but with a slight twist. As well as, I wanted a
smoky look or gradient effect, so I thought the stippling effect
would work best.
The medium I used for this project was ink.

Module 3 – Product Illustration ProjectProcess Work
These are the process works of our Product Illustration project. I chose the
perfume bottle because, I found it to be unusual, yet modern. I’ve always liked
this perfume bottle and found the lid to be intriguing. I decided on this angle so
the light would create contrast in the lid, as well as the body of the bottle. The
light even captured the feminine outline of the bottle’s detail to make it look like
a strong woman looking at something in the distance.

Module 3 – Product Illustration ProjectFinal
This is the final for our Product Illustration project. I love the look of this;
the object itself as well as the angle and light source. I’ve always liked
the stippling look over all the shading techniques, hence the outcome of
my project.
The medium I did for this project was ink.

Module 4 – Ultimate Bedtime Story ProjectProcess
These are the process works to an illustration of a quote for our Ultimate Bedtime Story
project. I decided to work with the quote, “Everything was being erased behind her.” I
wanted to do an unusual angle to this to create a dramatic effect. As for what is being
“erased” behind her, I wanted to tell a story we all can relate to, growing up. The girl is a
young adult who is walking to work or school, yet her childish ways are being erased.

Module 4 – Ultimate Bedtime Story ProjectFinal
This is the final outcome of our Ultimate Bedtime Story
project. I do like how it turned out, even though I know I can
improve on this project. I added more to the background,
mainly by adding more childish things, as well as have a
theme. To create contrast and a point of interest, I made the
girl in the light, and gave her a dark, wide outline.
The media I chose for this project were; watercolor for the
overall medium, and carbon pencil to define areas and the
outline of the girl.

Module 5 – A Walk Through the Forest ProjectProcess
These are the process works of our A Walk Through the Forest project. I really enjoyed
this project because, it’s always interesting to see what other people see in their minds. I
chose this particular image because, it was from the first audio recording or beginning of
the story, and it was the first image that popped into my head. I wanted to do a
perspective drawing with trees, and I have always had a fascination of trinkets hanging
from tree branches.

Module 5 – A Walk Through the Forest ProjectFinal
I am very, very proud and ecstatic about the outcome of this project. I
loved the fact that we had such a different space to work with, that it
allowed me to create a completely different impact. I decided not to make
the trees in the foreground so dark because, I wanted a different,
mysterious atmosphere while looking into the forest. In contrast, I wanted
the figure to have the darkest value so that way she would stand out
more.
The media I chose for this project were; watercolor, which was used to
create a dramatic background; ink, which was used to define the keys that
are hanging from the tree branches and to create contrast with the figure;
and white colored pencil, which was used to create a light fog to give a
wind or mystic effect.

Module 6 – Matte Painting ProjectProcess
These are my process works to my Matte Painting
Project. As soon as I heard we were doing this
project, my mind immediately thought of one action
figure. I chose an action figure from a famous video
game called, Final Fantasy. I thought of different
places this figure could be placed, mainly ones that
were more humorous. In the end, I decided to place
him in another famous video game, Super Mario. I wanted
him to be oversized and show dimension while being in a
flat, colorful, 2-D world.

Module 6 – Matte Painting ProjectFinal
This is the final outcome of my Matte Painting project. I am proud of this. I am a video game savvy person, and I found this idea
to be funny and clever. I like the contrast between the background and the figure. It allows the viewer to look directly at the dark
action figure. The only thing I would do to make this better is add more to the background. In the end, I am still very content with
the final product.
The media I chose to work with for the background are mainly watercolor and ink. The watercolor gave the
background a playful look, while the ink defined areas.

Module 7 – Student Sketchbook Choice ProjectProcess
I decided to revisit the Replacement Ads as my Student
Sketchbook Choice project. The reason behind my
choice is; I really liked the idea I had to begin with. I
loved the photograph itself, and I liked the babushka doll
being placed within the V8 bottles
Here, I put more detail into the Babushka doll. The rose is in
the same place as the tomato on the V8 bottle and the flourish
design is the replacement of the logo. I wanted her to blend in
with the bottles, but at the same time capture the eye of the
viewer.

Module 7 – Student Sketchbook Choice ProjectFinal
This is the final outcome of the Student Sketchbook Choice project. I really like how
she turned out. I wanted her to be shorter and lighter than the V8 bottles, yet still
capture the same minor qualities as the logo on the bottles. Overall, I am glad I
chose this as my Student Sketchbook Choice because, this was more of a challenge
for me while comparing the other projects I could have picked instead of this.
The media I chose to work with for this project were; watercolor, which as used to
create the hand painted quality look; ink, which was used to define areas in contrast
and detail.
