I have identified a trend which fits within the Street Revolutionary trend being ‘Statement T-shirts’. The key trend street revolutionary

is known for being loose fitting, gender-neu-tral and for its ‘Statement T-shirts’. Statement T-shirts fits under the revolutionary trend as

Polhemus (2017) states every street “look” comes along with an entire lifestyle package

of values and beliefs. These values and beliefs are shown through the Statement T-shirts.

Statement T-shirts are a modern fashion trend which convey identity, truth and meaning of

an attitude of belief towards a current political matter (Polhemus). The Oxford dictionary states that a Statement T-shirt is something

you wear or own that is new or unusual and is meant to draw attention to you (2017)

Statement T-Shirts are becoming a rising trend within the fashion industry as more fashion conscience people are expressing their opinion through clothing. As fash-ion develops at the same fast pace of movement with Generation Z, the generation that have been taught

to stand up for their beliefs. Fashion is playing an im-mense role in showing a statement in what people be-lieve in for example people wearing statement t-shirts and the up and coming trend of genderless clothing.

Statement t-shirts can be found within fast fashion, mid, high end and luxury fashion. Topshop is a British fast fashion a bricks-

and-mortar and e-tailor store. Topshop mar-ket their ‘Feminist T-Shirt by Tee & Cake by

using images of a model wearing the T-Shirt along with the description ‘Transform the plain white t-shirt to make a bold state-ment this season. In a longline fit, it fea-

tures ‘Feminist’ text print to the front. Tuck into high waisted jeans to keep the look

relaxed’. Topshop also do a similar T-Shirt stating ‘Females of The Future’ this is mar-keted on the Topshop website with the de-scription ‘Make a bold statement with your casual styles’. This T-shirt was worn by fa-mous blogger Camille Charrière when she

attended Paris Fashion Week. By comparing the marketing strategy of both fast fashion and luxury Statement T-Shirts I have found that fast fashion brands such as Topshop

use digital platforms to communicate with their consumers whereas luxury fashion

such as Dior use celebrity endorsments to give the brand a wider and a larger variety

of audience (brand strategy).

Within the luxury end of fashion inside Dior’s Spring 2017 Collection Maria Grazia Chiuri’s included a Statement T-Shirt stating that ‘We

Should All Be Feminists’ since the T-Shirt has hit the catwalk it has been the most reposted image on Instagram from the collection. Dior’s State-ment T-Shirts will be sold for $710 each. The

well-known singer Rihanna has collaborated with Dior both working together to raise awareness for Dior, Rih’s Clara Lionel Foundation and for Street

Revolutionary clothing wearers. Chiuri states “Seeing artists such as Rihanna wearing the We
