´Amma,µ Ila began one afternoon

In her rehearsed, oh-so-cute tone

´ Can I have a pet of my own,

I do get bored all aloneµ

Before Amma could even start

Ila went on and on with her part

´«.I wouldn·t disturb you anymore,

Oh, there·ll be so much to explore!µ

Finally, Amma said with a stern stare-

´ And who do you suppose will take care

when you·re at school or here and there?

´Oh No!µ Ila slumped with stress

´Theres a fat chance of father saying ¶yes·µ

Back in her room, she began to cry

´No pets ever, how ever hard I try!µ

Ila·s sobs filled up the room

She noticed not in her gloom

That along came a teeny spider

And hung mid-air right beside her

Orbie·s home had always been here

He never saw her shed so much tears

¶She·s always playing around non-stop·

Now he must somehow cheer her up!

When Ila could cry no more

She rose up from the floor

Midway, she saw something hover-

Was that a spider giving her a flower!

´Now I know this is what

fairytales are meant to be!µ

She clapped so hard- it scared Orbie

Seeing Ila jump with joy

Orbie knew it was worth the try.

But Ila had something else in mind

For her, this was a fairytale in kind.

She thought it was her Fairy Godmother

(Just had to be no other)

Who sent her an enchanted pet

One that could talk too, you bet!

Orbie wondered what was on hold

What was it that she had said?

What exactly was expected?

Ila·s string of spells failed to evoke

Whatever it was that she had hoped

She even tried ¶Fairy breath· in vain

All of a sudden she felt quite insane

I can eat a train now, I am so hungry

Orbie saw Ila was now fizzing out

So he waved a keep going flag about

Orbie spun pretty webs in a quick drill

Ila was astounded with such skill

When he was done with his swirls

All Ila thought of, was, yummy Jalebi curls

´He also gobbles up unwanted insects

Needs no caring for, and yet he protectsµ

Feeling elated, she switched on the light

Everything now seemed cheery and bright

´Well, he·s quite friendly for a start

And his silk webs are quite an artµ
