These days they can cost as much as a second-hand car. Some

beds can even cost as much as a new car. Does a good

mattress have to cost so much? We dont understand it either.

When we build ours, using quality materials for the best

comfort, we still only reach a fraction of that price.

To ensure our mattresses are comfortable and hardwearing,

we employ a real man weighing 140 kilos (made of steel and

wood admittedly), whose only job is to test them thoroughly.

The result is springs that last and mattresses that wont lose

their resilience and comfort over time. Its why we give our

mattresses a 25-year guarantee without a second thought.

Theres a lot of talk about natural materials in mattress

advertisements. We have natural materials: at IKEA stores you

can choose from mattresses filled with horsehair, camel hair,

silk or wool. But there are also times when other materials are

more suitable such as polyester, which is twice as strong as

cotton. We have those too.

Buying a mattress is very much an individual choice. After all,

its the most personal item of furniture in your home. So choose

carefully you might need one type of mattress, and your bed

partner another. And theres nothing to say you should buy a

mattress for 1000. You could get four for the same price.

Come and pay us a visit, lie down for a while, and think it

over. If you need some advice, just ask. But dont worry, you

wont meet the 140-kilo man. Hes already done his part to make

sure you sleep well at night.

If the springs, wooden frame, slats or, with respect to foam mattresses, the foam core, break or fail within 25 years from and after the time of its original purchase due to defects in materials and/or workmanship, we will replace it with a new mattress or bed-base, if you bring it back to us together with the

original invoice/cash receipt.This guarantee does NOT cover ordinary wear and tear. Even the best mattresses deteriorate with age and partly lose their comfort.This guarantee does not cover home service transport costs and other costs nor risks of transport, except during the fi rst two years following the date of the original delivery of the goods.

This guarantee does not cover damage to the product resulting from abuse and misuse, including, without limitation, the failure to use this product for its normal purposes or in accordance with IKEAs instructions on the proper use and maintenance of the product.

Hidden secrets Learn more about the most commonly used materials

NATURAL

Camel hair is warm and comfortable, both highly ab-

sorbent and stain-repellent. It is softer than wool

and has excellent insulating qualities.

Corn-based wadding is a high resilience natural fi bre

that regulates temperature in an effi cient way,

creating a dry and cool sleeping environment.

Eco-cotton is a very good ventilation material. Its soft,

yet durable, it is washable, and it has the ability to

absorb fl uid.

Horsehair has a built-in ventilation system. Since

horsehairs are hollow, moisture is transported away

very quickly.

Silk is a smooth fi lling material that creates a

comfortable micro-climate in the bed. As a fabric,

silk is specially good at keeping sensitive skin warm

and comfortable.

Wool is very absorbent and stain-repellent, with

excellent insulating qualities. Wool regulates the

temperature in your mattress effi ciently, creating a

dry and cool sleeping environment.

SYNTHETIC

Polyamide is hard-wearing and elastic. Its one of the

largest and most commonly used of synthetic fi bres.

Polyester is twice as strong as cotton, very

crease-resistant, and repels soiling. Polyester is

the most common fi bre in cotton-synthetic blends.

Test our mattresses by taking a nap in the mattress studio at your local IKEA store.

Care for your new SULTAN mattress!Turn your mattress several times a year, and even more

often when its brand new. This ensures even wear and

makes it last longer.

Keep your mattress clean by vacuuming it free from

dust and mites. If something spills and stains the

mattress, use a mild soap with cold water or

upholstery cleaner.

The best way to care for your mattress is to use a

mattress pad and/or a mattress protector. Find out

1. BONELL SPRINGS

Bonell springs are used in some of our fi rmest mattresses.

Their hourglass shape means that their resistance increases

with bodyweight.

2. POCKET SPRINGS

Pocket springs work independently of one another, following

your bodys movements closely. The metal spirals are encased in

pockets, hence the name.

3. DOUBLE SPRUNG BASES

Double sprung bases are found in most of our wooden-base

sprung mattresses. Basically, its a sprung core placed on top of

another sprung core. Sometimes a double-sprung base is two

layers of Bonell springs, and sometimes its a layer each of Bonell

springs and pocket springs. This provides a supportive base but a

soft sleeping surface.

4. ACTIVE POCKET SPRINGS

Active pocket springs are a more advanced version of the basic

pocket springs. They are more fi rm intially but relax as the

pressure on them increases, so they adjust to fi t your body.

5. POLYURETHANE FOAM

Polyurethane foam (what we normally call foam) is a supple,

resilient synthetic material that retains its shape very well.

6. HIGH RESILIENCE FOAM

High resilience foam (HR foam) is produced in a different way

to normal foam which makes it more fl exible and provides great

support in any sleeping position. This type of foam is suitable for a

heavier bodyweight and is also longer-lasting when compared

to normal foam.

7. MEMORY FOAM

Memory foam is a more advanced type of foam and is used as a

top layer on some of our mattresses. It breathes through open cells

and follows the contours of your body closely. The material was

fi rst introduced for astronauts, due to its ergonomic qualities.

8. LATEX

Latex occurs naturally in rubber trees, but can also be produced

synthetically. Its very effective at shaping itself to the contours of

your body providing precise support and relaxation. IKEA latex

mattresses are composed of millions of open cells giving great air

circulation, and allowing moisture to evaporate. Latex is a popular

choice for adjustable beds, thanks to its fl exibility.

Sleep on your back

Sleep on your side

If its on your side, your spine should

remain straight. Try a mattress that is

less firm and allows your shoulders and

hips to sink into the mattress, providing

support for the rest of your body.

If you sleep on your back you need

support around your neck and your

lower back. Try a slightly firmer

mattress, so these parts of your body

dont sink too deep into the mattress.

Like to sleep on your stomach? Try out one of our

firmer mattresses.

The mattress you choose also depends on how you sleep.

QUALITY


You can usually rely on small children visiting you in the

middle of the night, making the bed feel hot and cramped.

Playing tug of war with the quilts and pillows.

Try to keep hold of yours, though. Your pillow is important

since it lets your head and neck muscles relax properly.

The way you sleep will affect your choice of pillow. If you sleep

on your side, try an extra plump pillow for more support.

Prefer sleeping on your back? Go for a normal height pillow. Sleep

on your front? Then a low pillow is best. But what if you do all

three while sleeping and change position throughout the night?

The answer is to have two pillows: one high and one low.

Some of our GOSA pillows also have an ergonomic design that

naturally shapes itself to your head and neck for added support

and relaxation, guaranteeing a good nights sleep.

If you want to sleep really well, you should also think about

the type of quilt you have. Do you like to stay cool, keep warm

or extra warm? Its not just the material that makes one quilt

warmer and another cooler. It also depends on how the materials

are combined: the thickest quilt isnt always the warmest.

GOSA pillows and MYSA quilts are fi lled with down, feathers,

or synthetic materials. Natural materials draw moisture away,

but synthetic materials are easier to clean ideal if you have

allergies and wash your bedding frequently. Whatever your

recommend an extra high pillow if you sleep on your

Care for your new GOSA pillow and MYSA quilt:Down and feather

Machine wash once or twice a year at 60C, using only 1/3 of the normal amount of washing powder. Tumble until thoroughly dry. Putting a couple of tennis balls in the tumble-dryer helps to keep down and feather fi llings even fl uffi er. You can shake the down- and feather fi lling now and again for a softer, fl uffi er feel. Wash MYSA LYXA and GOSA GLNSA at 30C to retain the silky sheen.

Synthetic

Machine wash as often as you like at 60C. Tumble until thoroughly dry.

Ergonomic pillows - easy-care

Machine wash the removable cotton cover at 60C. Wipe the pillow with a damp cloth when necessary, but remember that the special visco-elastic foam doesnt like to get wet.

Comfort pillows - minimum care

Machine wash GOSA VILA and GOSA CYLINDER at 60C and tumble-dry.

Tips to prevent allergies

Choose synthetic fi llings becasue they can be washed more often than down-feather fi llings. Air bedlinen outdoors as often as possible. Wash bedlinen every week at a minimum of 60C. Wash quilts and pillows at 60C at least once every two months.
