Proposed NIEM Endorsement
Whereas, the members and the companies affiliated with the IJIS Institute wish to support the adoption and use of national standards for facilitating information sharing to improve the ability of local, state, tribal and Federal agencies to exchange information, and
Whereas, the U.S. Departments of Justice and Homeland Security have agreed to adopt a National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) expanding upon the widely accepted Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM) to support such sharing, and
Whereas, the President has ordered the development of standards that will help enable Federal agencies to exchange information with local, state and tribal agencies based on their adoption of NIEM, then

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED That the IJIS Institute, on behalf of its members
and affiliated companies, endorses the use of the National Information Exchange Model as the standard, by choice, for inter-jurisdictional and inter-disciplinary information sharing throughout the nation; and
That the IJIS Institute will promote the adoption and use of NIEM by its members and affiliated companies in their products and services; and
That the IJIS Institute, through the efforts of its members and affiliated companies, will provide training and technical assistance to local, state, tribal, and Federal agencies seeking to adopt NIEM.
