INTERNATIONAL: INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY OF FASHION (FE Level 3) – PORTFOLIO GUIDANCE This is a one year intensive course preparing you for entry into fashion related higher education. The aim of the course is to develop your creative ability as well as your communication and business skills within a context related to fashion. To progress you will need a portfolio (or appropriate work) showing your potential for further study at a higher level. The course is focused on building a range of skills, knowledge and a developed portfolio of work which shows engagement within a specific area of fashion. There will be emphasis on a range of areas including relevant skills to enable entry to higher level courses. Applicants can show a more specific interest in fashion such as design, media communication or business. The intensive nature of the course demands applicants must have the ability to learn and develop quickly. To help us understand your potential to succeed on the right course at LCF and progress onto higher level courses, we will need you to submit some examples of work to support your application: Portfolio Guidelines: A portfolio of work which demonstrates your interest in fashion This should be a combination of visual and written work. FURTHER INFORMATION TO SUPPORT YOUR APPLICATION: We are happy to receive a variety of work, especially if you are not yet sure about which area of fashion you want to specialise in. If you are not sure what to send in your portfolio, please consider your interests around fashion and the areas that you have experienced so far. Remember this could be anything that you feel communicates your potential for this course… Below are some suggestions to help with your application:

 FASHION  DESIGN  AND  TECHNOLOGY?    Portfolio  and  Interview  Advice  We  are  looking  to  see  your  creative  potential  through  examples  of  drawing,  particularly  life  and  figure  drawing  which  form   the   basis   of   fashion   drawing.   Applicants   should   be   able   to   demonstrate   knowledge   of   current   fashion   trends,  creative  thinking,  and  have  the  potential  for  further  development.  The  portfolio  could  include:  

• Sketchbook(s)  /  Research  –  such  as  drawings,  design  ideas,  experimentation  in  relation  to  fashion  ideas...  • Portfolio  pages  /  layouts  showing  your  ideas  (as  above)...  • 3D  work  –  this  could  be  through  photographs  /  observational  drawings...  

 FASHION  MEDIA  AND  COMMUNICATION?  

Portfolio  and  Interview  Advice  We  are   interested   in  your  education  and/or  previous  work  experience.  You  need   to  demonstrate  a  broad   interest   in  fashion,  media,  arts  and  current  affairs  and  show  motivation  to  succeed  on  the  course.    The  portfolio  could  include:  

• Research   book(s)   /   Sketchbook(s)   /   Folders   –   showing   your   interest   and   ideas   in   fashion   media   and  communication...  

• Visual   /  written  work  exploring  areas   in   relation   to   fashion  media  and  communication  –  e.g.  photo  shoots   /  styling  /  magazine  articles...  

• Websites  /  blogs...    FASHION  BUSINESS?  Portfolio  and  Interview  Advice  We  are  interested  in  your  education  and/or  previous  work  experience  and  need  you  to  communicate  your  interest  in  fashion  and  the  potential  areas  that  want  to  investigate  further.  Think  about  your  career  aspirations  /  long  term  goals….  The  portfolio  could  include:  

• Fashion  Influences:  for  example  research,  exhibitions,  books,  designers...  • Examples  of  your  interest  /  experience  of  fashion:  i.e.  written  work,  reports,  articles,  blogs,  images,  websites…  • You  may  wish  to  communicate  ideas  around  marketing,  visual  merchandising,  planning,  analysis  of  designers,  

trend  forecasting      FINAL  INFORMATION:    Include  anything  additional  that  you  consider  communicates  your  potential  for  this  course...  You  need  to  spend  time  preparing  your  work  and  organising  your  portfolio.      Remember  to  edit  /  select  your  work.    You  can  select  the  format:    

• Are  you  able  to  attend  an  interview  in  London?  You  can  bring  original  work  in  the  format  that  you  think  is  best  to  communicate  your  potential...  

• Are  you  sending  your  work?  (i.e.  cannot  come  to  London  for  an  interview).  Please  do  not  send  original  work  and  think  about  how  you  organise  your  portfolio  onto  appropriate  formats  such  as  digital  files  /  USB’s  /  CD  /  scans  of  work...
