He asks, “If both, Guru and God in form of Govind were to appear at the door, whose feet will I worship first?” He answers, “It has to be the Guru’s feet first, because without him, how would I have recognized (known) God?” These are the universally accepted words of Sant Kabir which simply define the greatness of gurus, of teachers and to applaud this enormity of our teachers, SAI International School celebrates Teacher’s Day like a big festival which sees great pomp and splendor. The day started with the senior students dressed up as teachers and substituting their classes. It was indeed heartening to see the students play-act their teachers with so much love and respect. Following that, the students made the teachers sit back and enjoy a number of cultural programs that were served to them on a platter of sheer affection. The students had also organized for light hearted games and activities which the teachers thoroughly enjoyed. The smile and glow on the teachers’ faces showed how appreciated and loved they felt, with some of them getting standing ovations from their beloved students. Our Chairman, Dr. Bijoy Kumar Sahoo truly believes that it is the teachers who are the pillars of this institution, the souls of this educational shrine and fantastic team members who work hard every day to create a better India through education. He spoke on the works and contribution of Dr Radha Krishnan, the former president of India, the great architect of the society and a model teacher of the nation. It is rightly said that ‘Teaching is that profession that teaches all the other professions’ because it is the teacher who plays the role of the torch bearer and holds the hands of their students to take them away from the darkness into the bright world of knowledge. They are the people on whom the humankind rests their immense faith to nourish them with the realms of knowledge. A student can find guidance, friendship, discipline and love; all from one person and that person is a TEACHER!

Manipuri Raas Sankirtan Exponent Guru Thanil Singh in SAI International School

Padmashri Guru Thanil Singh with his fifteen member dance troupe visited SAI International School today on Thursday 12 September 2013 and performed amazing Raas Sangkirtan recital that made the audience spell bound and mesmerized all through the concert. Around 700 students witnessed

Spic Macay, Bhubaneswar Chapter, organized this spectacular performance for an audience of 700

students, to enrich their cultural experience of the rich heritage of Indian classical Music and Dance forms.

Guru Thanil Singh has received the Padma Sri award from the Govt of India for his contribution to the arts. He has been propagating Indian, particularly Manipuri classical dance form all over the country and abroad, with his Raas Leela and Sangkirtan style.

Raasa Sankirtana performance is brought to the world by the Performing Arts Laboratory or PAL in short. PAL is a voluntary organization having a laboratory concept and established under the patronage of late Guru Shri Th. Tarunkumar Singh, Sangeet Natak Akademy Awardee, with his disciples in 1975 at Imphal. It attempts to promote and preserve the aesthetic values of art and culture.

Rotary Club and Interact club Installation Ceremony

If one wants to make the world a better place, it has to begin with us - here and now. Giving to those who do not have gives immense satisfaction and joy to the heart, and this is the goal that the Interactors and Rotarians at SAI International have set out with.

The Annual Installation Ceremony of the new Interact Board of SAI International School and the Charter presentation ceremony of SAI International College of Commerce & Economics took place at the Sushila Devi auditorium of SAI International School on Saturday, the 21st of September. The Governor of Rotary District 3260, Rtn. Rabi Narayan Nanda, Past District Governor & Former State Chief Information Commissioner, Rtn. D.N. Padhi, President of Rotary Club, Bhubaneswar Rtn. Dr. G.N. Patnaik, Rtn. Venugopal Rao, Mentor, Rotaract Club of SICC were invited to grace the installation ceremony. They installed the club office bearers for the year 2013-14.

Rtn. Dr. G.N. Patnaik advised the Interactors to devote some of their time and resource for the people in need. He assured in his address that he will always support and guide the newly inducted members in every venture of theirs. Rtn. Rabi Narayan Nanda wished the Rotaractors, Interactors and students to be good citizens of the country and serve the down trodden through the motto of Rotary “Service above Self”. He further said that Community service depends on the will power of an individual. PP Rtn B K Sahoo, Chairman SAI International School spoke about the mission of the School and the importance of Community services. He proudly announced the involvement of the students of the Interact club in different community service activities undertaken time and again. Rtn. D.N. Padhi, the President of the Rotary Club gave an insight to the students on the mission of the Rotary Club. He also shared with the students that commitment and focus are two important ingredients of running a good Interact Club. He further added that being a part of this Club helps in the development of leadership skills in children.

The new Interact Board for this academic year consists of President, Devi Prasad Panda, Vice President – Shivani Gupta, Secretary - Vidisha Kheria, Treasurer - Pratik Gupta and Sgt-at-Arms - Ankit Ray Mahapatra. The Student Office bearers of Rotaract Club who were installed were President - Mukund Agarwalla, Vice President – Bharat Didwania, Secretary- Siddharth Kamdar, Treasurer - Sushant Kumar Singh, Sgt-at-Arms - Vishist Gupta.

There is always something spiritually satisfying about giving back to the less fortunate. Interact club is a student’s body which works for various social issues for the benefit of the society. The club nurtures the altruistic spirit of its students and encourages them to help those in need. Interact club of SAI have participated in several social service drives, during the Joy of Giving week and also whole heartedly rendered their services on the International Day of Service and the Design For Change activities.

Design for Change “Be the Change” Conference, 2013

Representatives from SAI International School attended the “Be the Change” Design for Change International Conference in Ahmedabad on September 28 -29, 2013. Ankit Sahu of class XII was the first student speaker, he told about his ISA experience and project Reading Rainbow, putting a library in an underprivileged government school in Patia. The entire crowd of over 500 persons cheered when the before and after

photographs of the project were shown. Ankit ended his presentation with the famous clap of happiness, the entire BTC conference joined in as the clap filled the room with smiles and laughter. The conference was coordinated by Kiran Bir sethi of Riverside School and hosted by the Design for Change ambassador and actor Rahul Bose with guest speaker Mary Kom who received the bronze medal at the Olympic Games last year in London. Mary shared her heart warming struggle to be one of the pinnacle woman boxers of

the world, overcoming the hardships of poverty and oppression. Viren Rasquinha the former captain of the Indian National Field Hockey Team was also there and spoke about his decision to end his career while he was on top at the age of 28. Students from all over the world were present from countries like Taiwan, Bhutan, USA, Columbia, Israel, Spain, Singapore, Denmark, and even Zimbabwe. Students shared their design for change stories one at

a time. Stories were about environmental cleanup, helping the elderly, a song about peace, addressing school dropout rates, garden for the poor, the pursuit of happiness, making a safe playground and even the scarcity of stationary. Workshops were conducted for the adults on picture story designing, meditation, and getting the most out of your DFC project. Students attended workshops on the topics of Feel, Imagine, Do and Share the 4 corner stones of Design of Change thinking. Students and teachers chanted the catch phrase “I CAN” as they danced together learning the ICAN dance.
