description

The deal between the telecoms giants means that IHS Towers will acquire over 9,000 towers from MTN, and IHS will own over 14,000 of the 24,000 towers in the country and more than 20,000 across the African continent. As a result of the agreement, IHS will look to create more than 1,300 new engineering and technical jobs across Nigeria and confirms the company’s reputation as the leading mobile infrastructure business in Africa. IHS will invest an unprecedented $500m into improving mobile tower infrastructure and a build-to-suit program, with extensive capital outlay into the company’s centralised Network Operating Center. The company has invested $100m into the development of its proprietary hybrid energy resources in order to accelerate the pace of tower innovation and energy management. As a result, IHS has reduced the amount of diesel consumed by mobile towers in its Nigerian operations by half over the last year.
