Pipe Organ Update
The pipe organ project has received broad and generous support. So far, the parish has received 95% of the monies needed to cover the cost of this last phase of the project! This will involve the actual re-furbishing and installation of the Casavant Opus 2277 pipe organ. Work on the organ has already begun. David Wallace and Co., LLC , of Gorham, is the primary contractor. He has sub-contracted some of the work to the Faucher Organ Company, Inc. in Biddeford. Both of these companies are well-respected in the work of pipe organ building and repair. For those who are interested, please go to the parish website where we have included a link to the Faucher Organ website where you will see photos of some of the work they have been doing on this project.
Everyday Stewardship
When I was a teenager, I had an experience that truly changed my life and helped me to give Jesus all of myself. I had been baptized Catholic and always had faith, but it took a specific event to really shake me out of the comfort of my life and set me on a path devoted to God. I didn't get knocked off a horse or find an open tomb, but for me it was powerful enough to make a huge impact. Testimonies of how people came to live as intentional disciples have great power. Often the stories do not include singular events or people; instead they speak of a gradual unfolding of faith. It is often the culmination of several events and the work of more than one person that brings a person to the point of real decision. Living as good stewards, we can help move people forward in their journey with God. Giving of ourselves freely can move human hearts like few other forces. God working through us can bring others to see that simply saying that Jesus is the Savior of the world does not mean we live our lives differently. It takes more thought and reflection on our part to move past words to intentional acts with intentional results. I don't know if all those involved in that event when I was a teenager knew what an effect their good stewardship would have on me, but I am so thankful they provided a way for God to touch me. I have spent my entire life trying to pay them back by allowing God to touch others through me. Just what person might God touch through you today? --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Magnificat Ministry Catholic Women’s Prayer Breakfast in Portland, May 19, 2018
All Catholic women as well as women who have lost touch with the Church are invited to gather for an inspiring celebration of faith and community in Portland on Saturday, May 19, at the Magnificat Ministry Catholic Women’s Prayer Breakfast. The event will be held at the Fireside Inn & Suites, located on 81 Riverside Street, from 9 a.m. to noon. The keynote speaker will be respected author and EWTN host Susan Conroy, a native of South Portland who developed a friendship with Mother Teresa that lasted for years. The theme of her presentation will center on Our Blessed Mother Mary and why she is the perfect role model for women on earth as she continues to instruct from Heaven. Magnificat is an international ministry for Catholic women with over 90 chapters worldwide. It aims to help Catholic women become more committed to Jesus by fostering a desire to grow in holiness. Tickets for the breakfast are $22 per person. For reservations, call (207) 838-8309 or email [email protected]. No tickets will be sold at the door; this event sold out in 2017. For more information about the breakfast or the Scarborough chapter of Magnificat that is hosting the event, visit: www.magnificat-ministry.net/chapters/chapter-webpages/scarborough-me.

When the interior of Sacred Heart Church was painted a couple of years ago, the workers noticed and reported that there were serious problems with the 80-year-old stained-glass windows. The three large windows in the rear of the church and the round window over the doors of the main entrance are “sagging and bulging.” (When standing in the center aisle, it is easy to see there is a roughly 3-inch gap between the top of the windows and the frame.) Worried about the danger of losing these beautiful windows, the members of the Finance Council urged that repairs on these windows begin as soon as possible. The Finance Council also wanted to be certain that the windows be removed for repair before the pipe organ is installed in that area to avoid any possibility of damage to the organ. A reputable stained-glass company (recommended by the Diocese) will be removing these windows in the very near future.

Feeding the Poor & Hungry Easter-He has Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Jesus reminds us “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you wel-comed me…” In keeping with the spirit of service and charity in our parish, donations of non-perishable food and specific household items are requested as many parish families continue to struggle with food insecurity. A listing of specific food and household items to help poor families and children is available in all our church entrances. Donations also support the St. Mary’s Food Pantry which provides emergency food assistance to over 1,000 people per week in the
community. FMI, contact - Deacon Denis
